Our Learning Journey\u00a0 provide information for our learners and their parents\/carers about what they will be learning over the next block of learning and teaching. They also provide enrichment opportunities for learners.<\/p>\n
Learning Journey Cycle 3 2023\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Literacy\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n In Daily 5 this cycle we are focusing on building independence and applying the skills we have worked on in Talk 4 Writing. All children are now working on a reading book with each child receiving 1 book per week to read at home with an adult. We are still working through Jolly Grammar 1 and 2 for Primary 2’s and 3’s and working on embedding sound knowledge in P1 with a range of sentence work and dictation.<\/p>\n In Talk 4 Writing this term we are working on letter writing. We started our term writing letters to the Crayons from The Day the Crayons Quit!. We will also be working on personal writing along side this.<\/p>\n How you can help:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>Continue to read daily if possible with your child. Also if possible encourage your child to read new words they see in their every day life, this could be street signs, recipes\u00a0or even subtitles.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Numeracy and Maths\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n This cycle we are working on Fractions and Place value. We have been looking at halves and quarters of shapes and quantities. P2 are now moving on to Place Value and discussing the value of each digit within a number. We are also looking at the importance of digit order and what this means. P1 are working on\u00a0 number bonds and teen numbers. We are also developing our subitizing with dot patterns.<\/p>\n How you can help:<\/span><\/i><\/b> Work with your P1 to discuss numbers which come before, between and after a range of numbers. P2\/3 discuss numbers and their digit values, for example: 356 has 3 hundreds, 5 tens and 6 ones.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Topic<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Our topic this cycle is Amazing Me! We will be focusing on the human body and all of the amazing things it can do. We will also be looking at our own personalities and what makes us amazing. We will also be looking at what our body needs to be healthy and to function at its best.<\/p>\n How you can help:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>When you are cooking at home discuss what ingredients are in your meal and think about if you can create a meal together.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Physical Education\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This term for PE we are working on Athletics skills, we have been building our throwing, catching, kicking, throwing and running skills so far. We have a range of activities which will develop these skills such as hockey, football, basketball and hurdles.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Learning Journey Cycle 2 2023<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Literacy\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In Talk 4 Writing this term we are focusing on Instruction writing. The class are learning how to write instructions focusing on the layout, structure and language which is specific to instructions. We will be using the story \u2018How to Catch a Star\u2019 as our inspiration.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In Daily 5 we are continuing to focus on building stamina and fluency in our reading. The learners are taking part in 3 Daily 5 sessions per week completing each activity numerous times. Primary 1 are continuing to build their Phonics knowledge and P2\/3 are continuing to work on spelling using Jolly Grammar.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>How you can help: <\/span><\/i><\/b>Continue to encourage your children to read and spot letters in everyday activities. If your child has been given a reading book try to practice this as often as possible throughout the week, ask them to focus on their expression too.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Numeracy and Maths\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This cycle so far we have been working on Addition and Subtraction. In P2 & 3 we have been working on applying addition and subtraction strategies, specifically number lines.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Primary 1 have been focused on number bonds to 20, doubles and also addition and subtraction.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We will also be moving on to Multiplication and Division. We will work on counting and creating groups and using arrays.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help:<\/span><\/i><\/b> try to practice counting in a range of ways such as 2\u2019s,5\u2019s and 10\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In Maths we have started working on Data Handling. We will be working on creating graphs, asking questions and collecting data.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Topic\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This cycle, following on from our trip to the V&A we will be looking at plastics! We will focus on the history of plastics, why they are used and the impact this has, both positive and negative.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help: <\/span><\/i><\/b>discuss the recycling you do in your own home. Is there any way we could be more environmentally aware?\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Health and Wellbeing\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This planning cycle we are looking at the Learning Pit. We will be exploring the Pit and how it can help us with our learning.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help: <\/span><\/i><\/b>Ask your child about the Learning Pit and a time when they have been in the pit. <\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Physical Education<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For PE this cycle we are continuing our development of our gross motor skills for one session per week. We are using a range of activities, including, dribbling and kicking the football, creating movement patterns, tennis skills and skipping.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We are also taking part in Gymnastics for one session per week. We are using the new equipment and working on our core strength as well as pattern and movement.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Learning Journey August – December 2022 <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Literacy\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Daily 5:<\/span><\/b> Through Daily 5 we will be working on our 5 different activities every week. For reading we will be focusing on Jolly phonics for P1, learning sounds and applying them. P2\/3 will be working on either an Oxford Reading Tree book or a novel. Within their reading we are focusing on fluency and comprehension.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For spelling we will be using Jolly Grammar, your child will have a new spelling list every fortnight which they will use in class to practice the sounds and apply this in their writing.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Writing we are focusing on sentences and sentence structure. We will be working on up levelling our sentences to make our writing more interesting.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Talk for Writing:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The story we are focusing on this term is, The Little Red Hen. We will use this story to create our own piece of writing after using actions to imitate the story and creating story maps. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Numeracy\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our focus this cycle is Place value and ordinal numbers. With Primary 1 we are focusing on counting a range of objects and collections. We are also focusing on counting on from a range of numbers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n P2 & 3 will be working on digit value and understanding the value of each digit in a number, for example 321 is 300 + 20 + 1 or 3 hundreds, 2 tens and 1 one. We will be doing this through both concrete and pictorial resources.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help: <\/b>Practice counting with your child, this can be counting in 1\u2019s, 2\u2019s 5\u2019s or 10\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Maths\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This term we are working on Shape. We will be doing this through outdoor learning as much as possible. We will start this off by recapping 2D and 3D shapes with P2\/3 and also by finding and building a range of shapes with all learners. We will then move on to Money and Measure.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help: <\/b>Find shapes all around you, while out and about or at home try to find different shapes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Topic\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This cycle our topic is The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We will use this focus to discuss emotions and create our own emotions book exploring emotions and strategies to help with each emotion. We will also explore food chains and how important Owls are in our environment. We will then using our research to create a poster.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help: <\/b>Keep a look out for birds in your area. Discuss with your child what they have learned about owls.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Health and Wellbeing\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This planning cycle we will be focusing on Social and Emotional wellbeing. Through the Cool in School programme we will discuss a range of scenarios which children may face in school. We will then <\/span>a range of skills and strategies to help children to manage themselves positively.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We will also be focusing on being Safe, we will be discussing safe adults, activities and places. We will also discuss how we can assess risk and how to keep ourselves and other safe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Phys<\/span>ical Education: This planning cycle we will be focusing on gross motor skills and improving our control and skills. We will do this through a range of activities including throwing and catching, skipping, running and balancing.
