{"id":2213,"date":"2017-01-31T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T13:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/an\/anguschildrenandlearning\/?p=2213"},"modified":"2017-01-31T13:55:00","modified_gmt":"2017-01-31T13:55:00","slug":"young-peoples-transitions-conference-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/an\/anguschildrenandlearning\/2017\/01\/31\/young-peoples-transitions-conference-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Young People\u2019s Transitions Conference 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">posted by Alita Spink, Schools and Learning Support Officer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Young People\u2019s Transitions: Dimensions, Difficulties and Diversity Multi-Disciplinary Conference University of Edinburgh, 21 April 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 21, 2017 the University of Edinburgh\u2019s Childhood and Youth Studies Network and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crfr.ac.uk\/\">Centre for Research on Families and Relationships<\/a> will be holding a free, one-day conference for youth researchers, policymakers and practitioners. <em>Young People\u2019s Transitions: Dimensions, Difficulties and Diversity<\/em> seeks to explore, illuminate and interrogate the complexity of young people\u2019s lives today and ask questions relating to the myriad factors that shape the youth phase.<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speakers for the event include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dundee.ac.uk\/esw\/staff\/details\/jindal-snapedivya.php\">Divya Jindal-Snape<\/a>, Professor of Education, Inclusion and Life Transitions, University of Dundee speaking on, \u2018Multiple and multi-dimensional transitions of young people with additional support needs<em>\u2019;\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/schools\/education\/staff\/andyfurlong\/\">Andy Furlong<\/a>, Professor of Social Inclusion and Education, University of Glasgow speaking on, \u2018Young people, work and the new economy: surviving and thriving under precarious conditions<em>\u2019;\u00a0<\/em>and<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.scot\/Topics\/People\/fairerscotland\/tacklingpovertyinscotland\/independent-advisor\">Naomi Eisenstadt CB<\/a>, Independent Advisor on Poverty &amp; Inequality to the Scottish Government and Senior Research Fellow at University of Oxford,\u00a0speaking on \u2018Life chances of\u00a0young people \u2014 policy questions\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The conference themes are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inequality and Its Impacts\u00a0&#8211; <\/strong><em>How does inequality manifest itself in the multiple transitions of young people, and what are the impacts? <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who or What is in Control &#8211; <\/strong><em>How do the structural determinants of society interact with the agency of young people as they make transitions in this life stage?
