In the context of middle leadership, \u2018team<\/em><em>\u2019<\/em><em> is used widely and refers to colleagues that middle leaders have line management responsibility for, as well as those who they may work with in and across departments or project teams.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><strong><em>Standards for Leadership and Management (2012)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.1 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Introduction to Leadership &amp; Management (ILM)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Course Objectives<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Introduction to Leadership and Management aims to support and motivate teachers to become involved in school leadership in Angus by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Considering the roles of promoted staff in relation to:\n<ul>\n<li>Leading and managing people<\/li>\n<li>Leading learning and teaching<\/li>\n<li>Planning for improvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Planning to improve an aspect of their work by:\n<ul>\n<li>Carrying out a longer-term school based improvement project<\/li>\n<li>Presenting to colleagues on the impact of their project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Reflecting on practice,<\/li>\n<li>Considering local and national quality improvement initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Who is it for?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This course is aimed at teachers who are considering applying for Principal Teacher posts. Although not prescriptive, there will be an expectation that staff will have consolidated their practice following their trainee induction year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Course Organisation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This course is organised into nine sessions. Participants are expected to attend all the sessions. During the year, participants will be asked to plan, deliver and evaluate a school improvement project in line with aspects of their school improvement plan. The sessions support the development of the Key Actions of middle leadership, namely:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a range of strategies for individual and collective self-evaluation which contribute to school improvement;<\/li>\n<li>Develop coherent approaches to professional learning which build and sustain teachers\u201f practice;<\/li>\n<li>Lead and work collaboratively to enhance teaching which leads to high quality learning experiences;<\/li>\n<li>Build and sustain partnerships with colleagues, learners, parents and other stakeholders to meet the identified needs of all learners;<\/li>\n<li>Manage allocated resources proactively and effectively to meet learning and development priorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Who is it for?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each of the sessions is open to all teaching staff but they may be of particular interest to those in middle leadership positions (DHT, PT) or class teachers aspiring to those positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Programme Organisation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme consists of a number of discrete sessions and self-directed study through the Angus Council Always Learning portal. Participants should select the sessions most appropriate for their professional learning.
