Kerpoof animation

Today we were learning how to make a single frame animation using Kerpoof.

This is a really cool website, which is free to use, and which allows you to do all sorts of creative things.

We were creating animations with a fairytale theme.

Our challenge was to make at least one of the characters move across the screen. We could also add actions and music.

We really enjoyed this and are going to keep practising so we can perhaps make animations with more than one frame.

Have you used any other animation tools online?

The Big Bad Wolf

Today, we were learning about adjectives. We learned that they are words which we use to describe things.  We can use them to make our stories much more interesting.

We brainstormed as many adjectives as we could to describe the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. Mrs Stewart added them to the whiteboard so we could use them in our writing.

Here are a few of our descriptions…

“Watch out for the wolf because he eats Grannies with his sharp, yellow teeth. He has a black and white furry body. He has pointy ears that are good at hearing you walking in the forest. So be careful!”  Kyle

Stay away from the forest.  A big, bad wolf lives there.  He has sharp yellow teeth and a big, bushy tail.  He bites his toenails and they go all ragged.  His ears are very pointy.  He has a scary face.  He likes to jump out and eat you.”   Madison

Don’t go into the forest.  There is a wolf in there.  He is very sneaky so watch every step you take because it might be the wolf’s footprint.  He looks very hairy and has sharp, pointy teeth.  He will try to eat you if he sees you.”   Emily

Don’t go near the forest because if you do a big bad wolf will run after you.  The wolf’s smelly feet are as smelly as a garbage bin.  The wolf is furious because he is hungry.”  Ben

Little Red Riding Hood Maths

We have been learning about position in maths and language.

We found out that the position of something tells you where it is. We worked together to make a list of position words such as over, in, above, below etc.

Mrs Stewart told us that these words are also called prepositions.

We worked in groups of four to illustrate our understanding of these words.

We each had a character from Little Red Riding Hood. We each made a separate poster in our group of four. We made a collage or drew a picture and added a sentence with a position word. Then we put all four posters together to make one big poster. We attached our fairytale character to the middle by a piece of ribbon. This meant that we could move our character to the place indicated in the poster.

Have a look at some of our work

We are now making Red Riding Hood themed Bee Bot mats. We will post some more pictures once we have finished.

Dear diary …

Today we were writing Little Red Riding Hood’s diary, for the day she went to visit Granny, and bumped into that very wicked wolf …

Mrs Stewart gave us the start and we had to continue writing the diary from there.

We had to imagine that we were Little Red Riding Hood doing the writing.

We also had to remember that we could not put in the part about the wolf eating Granny because we were still walking through the forest when that part of the story happened.

It was a wee bit tricky, but we worked hard and did a great job.

Letter from the Troll

Today, we received a letter from the Troll!!

He told us that he was very unhappy because he had no friends and was a bit lonely living under a cold, smelly bridge. The Troll asked if the Superstars could give him some advice on how to make some friends. Some of the Superstars felt so sorry for him they decided they would make the Troll their friend.

Here’s a selection of their advice.

“Dear Mr Troll, if you wash your hands and wash your body and cut your nails every day you will be nice and clean and people will like you.” Kyle

“Dear Mrs Troll, if I come trip trapping over your bridge I will give you a sweet and then I will be your friend.” Ellamae

“Dear Mr Troll, you should be a nicer troll and be kind. Do not shout at people and show them respect.” Kaitlyn

“Dear Mr Troll, I think you should come to my class and play with me.” Jack

Here are some pictures of us pondering our advice!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Writing

We have been doing lots of writing projects for the latest fairytale that the Dragon sent us.

We created some “Wanted” posters for that naughty girl Goldilocks. They can be seen around the school at the moment.

The reward for finding Goldilocks is 5 pence.

We had to try to think of different places where Goldilocks might have been seen last. Two suggestions were at the honey shop and at the hairdressers!

We wrote newspaper articles to report the very serious crime that had taken place at the 3 Bear’s house. We had to think about the questions who, when, where and what when we were writing them.

Some of us sequenced the story and wrote sentences to match.

The Superstars have also written recipes for the 3 Bear’s porridge. This is the first time we have written instructions this year but we did a great job.

Here is our writing wall in the classroom. Can you spot the porridge bowls we made last week?

Mr Wolf and the Three Bears

During the week we read another of Mrs Stewart’s favourite books, “Mr Wolf and the Three Bears” by Jan Fearnley.

In this book, Mr Wolf invites the three Bear’s over for a party to celebrate Baby Bear’s birthday. But guess who turns up to spoil the party? Yes, that’s right, Goldilocks!!

Never mind, she gets her comeuppance in the end. Read the book and you will find out.

In the book, Mr Wolf and Grandma Wolf look on the internet, at a site called www.hungry-wolf.com to get some ideas for recipes.

We decided to try out two of them – Cheesy Snip Snaps and Daddy Bear’s Huff Puffs.

Delicious!

We also did some porridge bowl art. It was a busy day!

Goldilocks

The Dragon visited us last night and left us some new things. All our “Jack and the Beanstalk” books have been replaced by “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.” He also left us some new puppets and masks to play with!

There was also another surprise. Our reading area has turned into a castle with a dragon and a Frog Prince!

We read the Goldilocks big book. Then, some of us put pictures of the story in order and wrote sentences to match. Others wrote newspaper articles. We had to answer the questions who, what, when and where when we wrote them.

What is your favourite Fairytale?
