Today we made some porridge – the 3 bear’s favourite food.
We used an easy recipe – one mug of oats, two mugs of milk and a wee pinch of salt. We made it in the microwave.
We could add some brown sugar, golden syrup, bananas or sultanas to the top.
We were all very brave and had a taste even if we weren’t sure if we would like it. Some of us thought it was yucky and some of us thought it was yummy!

The Dragon visited us last night and left us some new things. All our “Jack and the Beanstalk” books have been replaced by “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.” He also left us some new puppets and masks to play with!
There was also another surprise. Our reading area has turned into a castle with a dragon and a Frog Prince!
We read the Goldilocks big book. Then, some of us put pictures of the story in order and wrote sentences to match. Others wrote newspaper articles. We had to answer the questions who, what, when and where when we wrote them.

Every year we learn a Scottish poem to recite for the Burns Poetry Speaking competition. This year our class chose “Ode tae a Bumblebee” by Stuart McLean.

We continued to read different version of “Jack and the Beanstalk” this week but we are also reading and looking at other Fairytales too.
On Friday we read the story of “The Frog Prince” and made our own from paper plates.
We have been working on our writing this week, retelling the main parts of “Jack and the Beanstalk” in our own words.
This is the beginning of the story.
Mrs Stewart really liked the last line of this one. It says “Jack went home with happiness.”
As well as our Dragon challenge, we have been doing lots of other Jack and the Beanstalk related measuring activities this week.
We estimated how many of the Giant’s boots it would take to cross from one side of the gym to the other. Then we went into the gym to find the actual answer. We had to remember to line up the boots heel to toe and not to leave any spaces.
We used our Giant’s boots to find things that were longer, smaller or the same size. We drew and labelled the things we found in our special books. We visited the nursery in groups to measure things in there.
After that, we made beanstalk pictures with beanstalks that were longer, shorter or the same size as the boot.
On Friday, we used special “bean” rulers to measure things around the class. The rulers were only 10 “beans” long so we used two for things that were a wee bit longer.
We have been making Beanstalk animations in our ICT lessons.
We used a site called ABCya! This is also a great site for lots of other lerning activities and games.
Mrs Stewart wanted to put our animations of the blog to show you but they won’t play on the site. You can click on the link and trying making one yourself at home.
They are animated gifs. Perhaps someone who is reading this can give us some advice so we can show you our fantastic animations?
On Wednesday, we were all very excited to find the Dragon had left us another letter and a present!
In his letter, the dragon told us that he had heard that we are learning about measurement in maths, and that he wanted to set us a challenge.
He sent us some sheets of paper with an outline of the Giant’s hand. In the bags were magic beans.
First, we had to ESTIMATE how many beans would fit on the Giant’s palm (we knew from our Halloween maths that an estimate is a sensible guess). We had to write down our estimates in pen so we could not change them later!
Then we arranged our magic beans on the Giant’s palm to find out the actual number. Finally, we worked out the difference between our estimates and the actual number, using our calculators.
After that, we drew the outline of our own hand on the Giant’s and did the same again, only for our hand this time.
We really enjoyed the Dragon’s challenge and hope he will send us some more.

Quadblogging is an idea created by David Mitchell of Heathfield Primary School. It brings together classes with blogs from across the country into a ‘Quad’ over a 4 week period.
Four schools that have a partnership/agreement which that for a four week cycle, each school’s blog is the focus for one week out of four.
