Golden Time

We have had some nice weather this week and have been going outside as much as we can before the weather changes. We spent our Golden Time outside today.

The Superstars really like using the nursery playground when the nursery children have gone home.

We had our gym lesson with Mrs Cranston outside as well this week. We were practising our ball skills.

Moshi Monsters

We are now all registered with Moshi Monsters and have to remember to feed our monsters so they don’t get sick.

This week, we talked about wants and needs, and the differences between them. We thought about the things that our monsters, and ourselves, really need to keep us happy and healthy.

We worked in small groups to sort things into needs and wants columns. Then we discussed how we had sorted them and why the things in the “needs” column are really important.

Sight Words

Sight words make up half of our weekly spelling list They are the words we use most often in our reading and writing. They are quite often tricky to learn. We are taking lots of opportunities to use and practise them in class.

One of our weekly activities is to make a weekly sight word pattern book. This week we were concentrating on the words “the” and “is.”

We have mixed up sentences to cut them apart and re-arrange so that they make sense. We have to look for clues such as the capital letter and full stop to find the beginning and end of the sentence.

Spelling Activities

Spelling Word Bunting

One of the choices on our spelling menu is to do something creative with our spelling words. Here are some of our Stars with their great ideas. We are going to have a special noticeboard in out classroom to dispay our fantatstic spelling work.

Another of our choices is to practise our words in shaving foam on a baking sheet. Here we are practising in class. It was a wee bit messy but good fun!

Monster Problem Solving

Trying out our monster faces!

We are using our problem solving skills to work out the solution to maths stories.

Today we tried work out the answer to a story about different coloured monsters. We are going to start a maths vocabulary wall. Today, Mrs Stewart wanted us to remember that the word “equal” can mean the same quantity or amount.

Star of the Week

Mr Robb phones parents at home to pass on the good news that their child has been chosen as the Star of the Week. Well done to this week’s star from Primary 2S.

Four groups tied for Group of the Week so we have rolled the points over until next week.
