International Day of Peace 2016

Wednesday was International Peace Day which was a day to commemorate and strengthen ideas of peace, a day when all wars should have a ceasefire and ideally stop all together. This week saw the US and Russia come to an agreement to stop shelling IS in order to send out a convoy of food, sustenance, medicine and all humanitarian aid, this worked (sort of) but sadly the war has resumed and more and more people are being killed and displaced.

The war in Syria and surrounding countries against Islamic State might be the most publicised war but there are many, many others around the world raging on today (and totally ignoring International Peace Day on Wednesday) here is a list of some:

Uighur Conflict in China: Started 2009 and has over 200 deaths.

Sectarian Violence in Myanmar: 120,000 have fled Myanmar since 2012.

War in Yemen: Over 10,000 deaths since 2014.

Political Crisis in Burundi: More than 400 deaths since April last year.

Organised Crime in Mexico: 54 criminal organisations operating with over 85,000 deaths because of it.

Tensions in the East China Sea: Disputes between China and Japan over oil reserves and who can access them.

Civil War in South Sudan: Over 50,000 deaths since December 2013.

Like previously mentioned these are a few conflicts going on, and I haven’t even touched on Terror Groups like IS, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabab and others which are causing problems globally.
