Using elkonin boxes and diacritical marking.

Grace, Summer, Gabriela, Oskar, Panashe and Isaac in P4/5 were using elkonin boxes to help them write words from their reading book ‘On the sand’. We talked about how some sounds go in the same box and some go in their own box. We then diacritically marked these words by putting a dot under single sounds and a line under sounds like ‘ch, sh, oo and ee’ . The group went once step further and were able to sound how many sounds were in the word after diacritically marking it. We also had a go at using our names for this activity. It was a lot of fun and a very effective session.
