Rhyming stories!

P4/5 writing group (Panashe, Isaac, Summer and Jay) have been working hard for several sessions learning about rhyming words. Today the group used their learning to write their very own rhyming stories. This is a huge accomplishment for the group who have worked very hard to produce this excellent finished piece of work and they look very proud of it!

Number bonds to 20

Today P5 were playing a fun and active stepping stones game in our numeracy group to help them with their number bonds to 20. Each child had to make it from start to finish by answering the correct number bond to 20 and had to do it as fast as they could as they were being timed! Well done to Kai who came first place with Emmanuella close second!

Number bonds to 10,15 and 20.

Archie, Payton, Joseph, Harvey and Oscar in P4 have been working hard on their number bonds to 10,15 and 20. We have been focusing on using different strategies and materials to help us learn. Our favourite strategies are using concrete materials, particularly the number bond mats and cubes where we can separate the cubes to create a visual representation of number bonds. We have also enjoyed testing our knowledge on the digital platform ‘Hit the button’ where we have been trying to beat our scores. Well done to Archie for a new high score of 32/33 on number bonds to 10!

Using elkonin boxes and diacritical marking.

Grace, Summer, Gabriela, Oskar, Panashe and Isaac in P4/5 were using elkonin boxes to help them write words from their reading book ‘On the sand’. We talked about how some sounds go in the same box and some go in their own box. We then diacritically marked these words by putting a dot under single sounds and a line under sounds like ‘ch, sh, oo and ee’ . The group went once step further and were able to sound how many sounds were in the word after diacritically marking it. We also had a go at using our names for this activity. It was a lot of fun and a very effective session.

Practicing our handwriting.

This week Lexi and Nathan in P6 have been practicing their handwriting through a decoding Christmas Task. They have been working hard at making sure their writing is neat, that it sits on the line and is all the same size. To take charge of their own learning they used highlighters to highlight the handwriting they were proud of and the handwriting they wanted to improve on and used this to support them throughout the task. Great Job Lexi and Nathan, the finished piece was written beautifully and is displayed in our foyer!
