Term 4 Newsletter

Dear Parents P6P Newsletter – April 2018
Welcome back after the Easter holidays. I hope you all had a lovely break and are refreshed and ready for our last term!
I am pleased to say that I will now be in class with the children 5 days a week. We will continue to be supported by our PSA, Mrs Rhodie.
Our topic this term will be Living and Growing. The children will be learning about changes to our bodies during puberty and how babies are made and born. We will be looking at what changes will happen, different types of relationships and lifecycles. We will have an exciting challenge week where the children will be looking at preparations needed for a baby! The children will also be looking at the effects of alcohol and we will have a Police Officer come into visit us to talk us through some important facts.
We will continue to read our class novel ‘Dark Isle’ by D, A Nelson. The children have been enjoying the mystical goings on and are keen to finish the book to see what will happen! For reading and spelling, the children will continue to follow the Active Literacy Programme alongside the Reflective Reading strategies which will improve their skills in understanding of a text. Furthermore, they will continue to follow the Big Write Programme which allows children to focus on up levelling writing by using vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation.
The class will move onto learning coordinates and use mathematical language to give the position of a point. They will also be learning about patterns and how obtain the rule for finding any number in each number pattern. Finally, they will progress to algebra where they will be able to solve basic equations using a number machine. The children will continue to follow the “Big Maths” programme which improves their mental calculations. All children, each week, take part in CLIC challenges and Total Recall Challenges to improve their personal scores.
This term, Primary 6 are getting a fantastic opportunity to learn Cricket. This will be over 6 weeks. The children will be outside and will require a change of gym clothing suitable for outdoor weather on Mondays.
