Aberdeen Youth Games

P5 along with the 5s from the P4/5 class attended the Aberdeen Youth Games on Friday 25th May. Pupils from primary schools all across Aberdeen City were there as well meaning that there was almost 1500 pupils taking part in sport at ASV. We were allocated Tennis, Basketball and Hockey for our sports, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

World Book Day

Yesterday we were celebrating World Book Day (1st March) by having a book swap, designing new front covers and dressing up as a character from a book. Take a look at some of our amazing costumes.

Jacobite Visitor

On Wednesday 28th February, P5 had a visit from a Jacobite! He told us about the key events of the Jacobite rebellion and how the various weapons would have been used. At the end we got to hold the weapons and some pupils were selected to dress up in the clothes of the time.

Writing – Setting description

We have been learning about describing the setting of our stories in detail. This week we tried something new, we wrote about the setting around us…. outside. It meant that we could hear, feel and see about what we were writing.

Lion Dance

On Monday 19th February we had a visit from a lion! Don’t believe us, then take a look at the photos. It was great to see the lion dance and learn more about Chinese culture.

Time

Primary 5 have started learning about time. We made clocks which have lift up flaps that will help us to tell the time. On the outside it says the minutes past or to the hour. On the inside it says the minutes past in digital time. We had a lot of fun making them and look forward to using them in our learning.

Peer Reading with the Nursery

This term Primary 5 have started reading to the nursery classes. We have had to practise reading the books aloud with expression and emphasis. After reading through them we have created questions that are suitable for the nursery. Finally, our favourite part, we get to share the stories with the nursery.

We have had a great time and hope the nursery pupils are gaining an enthusiasm for reading!
