Term 1 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Guardian

Welcome back to school after the summer holidays!  I hope that you all had a lovely time.  I am looking forward to working with the children in Primary 4 this year.

For our first class project we will be completing a book study of ‘The BFG’ written by Roald Dahl.  I am sure that some you are familiar with his work. We will be looking and discussing different topics through this topic.

Maths and Language

This term, we will be focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in Maths.  We will also be furthering our knowledge and understanding of shapes and symmetry.

In Language, we will be developing our story writing skills with a focus on using our VCOP tools.

Reading

Reading will be set weekly.  I will be listening to their reading three times a week and the children will also be completing comprehension tasks on the book that they are reading that week to assess their understanding of the text.

 Homework

Homework will be handed out on a Monday and will be collected in on the Thursday morning every week.  Homework will usually consist of a spelling activity and a maths or topic task.  If you or your child has any queries about the homework, just ask!

P.E Kits and Swimming

I will take the children for P.E once a week, so please ensure your child has a P.E kit in school all week.  We are also attending swimming lessons at the Northfield Pool on a Thursday morning.  Please make sure that your child has their swimming things on a Thursday, otherwise they will be missing out on the lesson.  If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the school office during the day or myself after school.

Library

We have an allocated slot in the Library every week.  The children will be able to take a book home for reading, but has to bring it back, before they can take another one home.

As mentioned earlier, if you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to write a note or contact the school office to arrange a meeting with myself.

Kind regards,

Mrs Carina Eloff
