Week beginning 16th November 2020

We have a short week this week. Friday 20th November is an in-service day and school is closed for pupils.

On Thursday each P1 child will be bringing home a Bookbug P1 Family Bag. This is a gift from the Scottish Book Trust and yours to keep. Inside you will find lots of things to share together.

This week we will be learning the sounds u and l. We will be thinking of things which start with these initial sounds and finding out how to form the letters.

Any discussion at home about things which start with these letters will help with the learning of the sounds.

Maths

This week we will be moving on to the topic of information handling. The children will be sorting things into sets and finding out about Carroll Diagrams, pictograms and bar graphs.

Topic

We are now moving on to our next topic which is Showtime. This is usually the time when we prepare for the Christmas Concert, but this year we have to do things differently. You will find some homework related to this topic on our Google Classroom. The children will still have the opportunity to be an audience member and a performer but some of these opportunities will need to be virtual.

This week we will also be reading the books in the Bookbug Family Bags and doing some related activities as it is Scottish Book Week.

Week beginning 9th November 2020

We have poppies for sale in class this week. If your child would like one please send in a donation.

This week we will be learning the sounds g and o. We will be thinking of things which start with these initial sounds and finding out how to form the letters.

Any discussion at home about things which start with these letters will help with the learning of the sounds.

Maths

This week we will be our final week looking at patterns. We will be making some of our own patterns using colours, shapes and even things outside such as leaves and sticks.

Topic

We continue with our Wider Topic, looking at Autumn, for the start of this term.  This week we will be learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.

Week beginning 2nd November 2020

Weekly homework is now being posted on our Google Classroom. Please let me know if you cannot access it or have lost your child’s username and password.

Now we have completed the second set of 6 letter sounds – c/k, e, h, r, m and d. This week in school we will revise these sounds and do some activities to consolidate them. Matching pictures to their initial sound, forming the letter sounds and thinking of things which start with the letter sounds. We can now also continue to form words using the first 12 letter sounds – red, hat, den, cat, hip, men etc.

You could try to make some of these words together at home using the individual letter sounds. This is the start of blending where we say the sounds together to read the word.

Maths

This week we will continue to look at patterns. We will be thinking about colour patterns, shape patterns and number patterns.

We will also begin our CLIC sessions for numeracy.

As part of our Big Maths we do CLIC sessions in the class which at this stage of Primary 1 only involve –

Ccounting and Llearn its (these are number facts which we learn so they can be quickly recalled without needing to work out the answer).

Counting – counting to 10 and 20 forwards and backwards

Learn its –  1 + 1 = 2 and 2 + 2 =4.
