CLIC Targets for P1 Term 4 Week 8

C – Counting

For counting this week we will looking at CORE numbers to 10. This involves having a greater understanding of the numbers to 10 by comparing, ordering, rounding and estimating. We will be looking at number stories (adding), greater than/less than and subitising (recognising how many objects without having to count).

L – Learn Its

Learn its are number facts which we try to remember and quickly recall without working out the answer. We have to remember the doubles to 5. We now also add two further addition facts and saying the multiples of 10 to 100.

1+1=2  2+2=4  3+3=6  4+4=8  5+5=10

2+3=5  2+1=3 (we also practise the switchers – 3+2=5 and 1+2=3)

10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100

These facts are practised orally and this term we will start weekly written practise.

I – It’s Nothing New

These are facts like our learn its but instead of asking What is one add one? we say What is double one?

Can you double 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5?

C – Calculations

This week we will focus on adding again.

Can you count two groups of objects altogether to find the total?

Use objects you have at home and form 2 groups to add together with different amounts. You could even try 3 groups of objects to add together.

Or practise your mental maths skills by adding in your head.

CLIC Targets for P1 Term 4 Week 7

C – Counting

For counting this week practise counting (saying the numbers) on or back from different numbers. Don’t start at 1, start at 7 and count to 20, or start at 29 and count to 45 etc. You can also try going backwards from different numbers.

L – Learn Its

This week we will focus on division.

Use objects you have at home such as sweets, pencils, coins, lego blocks etc. and share them out to people or toys equally. Remember to give one at a time and in an order so you don’t miss anyone out. Try sharing between different numbers of people/toys such as 2, 3, 4 or 5. How many does each get? It should be the same number for each.

If you want a challenge you can try some mental division – try dividing by 10. E.g. 50 divided by 10 is 5. Or say how many tens are in 50? Try Hit The Button dividing by ten.

Sports Day

P1 enjoyed their Sports Day. Our races were the running race, the sack race, the quoit on head race and a team relay race. We also did some potted sports activities, moving round in our teams.

C – Counting

For counting we are going to practise our number recognition and number formation. Use the number square to point to a number and say it’s name. Can you write down any numbers you are asked? Use a whiteboard or paper to practise your number formation.

Can you set out groups of objects and find the total. E.g. 3 groups of 5 make 15, 2 groups of 6 make 12 etc. As a challenge try some mental multiplying.

For counting we are going to practise our multiples of 10, counting in tens from 10 – 100. If you are looking for more challenge, try counting in tens from other starting points e.g. 6, 16, 26, 36 … You can use a number square to help with this, going down the rows. As another challenge this week we will try counting in 5s too.

Use objects you have at home and make a group to take away from. Try using different amounts to start with and take away different amounts.

If you can manage using materials, try some mental subtraction, working out the answers in your head.
