Happy Mother’s Day!
Hope everyone was spoiled on Mother’s Day. We had great fun making these little treats!
Terrific Tie Dye!
We thoroughly enjoyed doing our tie dye t shirts and couldn’t wait for them to dry so that we could take them home! They have turned out really well and we are very pleased with them!
Fabulous Sixties Fashion – fabulous models too!
5S Boys and Girls
All the children seemed to enjoy their long weekend and arrived back in school full of energy…for the Valentine’s Disco!
However, we did pack a lot into our two days. In Literacy our focus was on “Recounts” and we used the holiday as our stimulus. Everybody worked really hard and Mrs Symon was delighted with the peaceful atmosphere in class – Well Done, P5!
In the afternoon, we switched our attention to Science. We used the whiteboard to look at information about temperature and thermometers. Afterwards we played a game, then worked with partners to complete a written challenge. The best bit was using thermometers.
Lots of budding scientists in P5!
CONGRATULATIONS to Elizabeth and Cole! In HWB we created posters to promote healthy eating. Two from each class will be displayed in the dining room and, after a class vote, they were our winners.
As it was such a short week we did not have Golden Time on Friday. Instead we relaxed by watching the Glee Club rehearse for their competition on Monday. The pupil feedback was extremely positive and we wish them well! Then we read an e-book about Chinese New Year. Some of us enjoyed a VERY relaxed approach to reading, as you can see!
NB No Dojo Star or Table of the Week – we are carrying our points over.

At last…our fabulous wall display! We worked with 5D to produce this “creation” and are proud to be Successful Learners and Effective Contributors. We used our research skills to find out about “The Sixties” and converted our new knowledge into this artistic display. Can you spot the Zebra Crosssing?
Aimee’s Post
In P5S we are doing tie-dye t-shirts with Mrs Sinclair and I can’t wait to do it. We had to make a record cover for a Sixties band. We are doing a play about the Sixties timeline and I can’t wait to find out what I am going to be. We are having lots of fun doing our topic.
Thank you, Aimee.
So glad you are enjoying it.
REMINDER
Please could you ask your child to share their Learning Journey with you? It may still be lurking in their school bag! It would great to have photographs or comments added about the different activities the children participate in, out of school time. A signature lets us know you have seen it! Many thanks.

Hello Everyone!
Another one of our busy weeks in school!
In maths some of us have been learning more about decimals and we are becoming increasingly confident! We have also been revising our tables facts as we need to have quick and accurate recall, especially for Big Maths. Oliver and Yasmeen are able to correctly complete 42 questions within our 60 second time limit. Now they are trying to improve on their times – well done!
In literacy we have been writing persuasive letters. Everyone managed to finish and the letters were the result of three weeks hard work. We gathered evidence, looked at persuasive language and up-levelled our writing. Our final pieces were written to the editor of a fictional newspaper. Mrs Symon can’t wait to read them!
We are just delighted with our topic wall display. Honestly, it is almost finished so we should definitely be able to show it off in next week’s blog.
In French we have been learning the days of the week. Just for a bit of fun, some of us dressed up and had our photos taken for the wall!
Ne sommes-nous pas fabuleux?
Golden Time
As a special treat, Miss Mair takes some children from each class into the Games Hall for Golden Time. It was our turn this week and we used our dojo points to help decide who would go. George, Kassidi, Immanuel and Omar were the lucky four. Their cheeks were rather pink when they came back! Thank you, Miss Mair.

Hello!
This week in writing we are doing persuasive letters to tell Nessington town that Dr X was an innocent person. We had to write what good things Dr X did like for example Dr X always was a good and kind person at heart. He always went shopping with his mum and always cared about people. I wonder what we are going to do next Mrs Symon!
Immanuel
In maths this week, we have been multiplying and dividing decimals. The decimal point was the only difference between normal multiplication and division sums! At first, we often forgot the decimal point, but as we got into it, we remembered everything. We also learned to write our own learning intention. (L.I)
Theo
Thank you, boys!
We were very excited by the arrival of a new laptop bus in the Blue Unit. Normally Mrs Symon does not use laptops at Golden Time, but as a special treat, we were allowed to have them this week…yippee! You can tell we enjoyed ourselves!
We are enjoying our topic work and our 1960’s wall display is coming on beautifully. Hopefully we will be able to show you next week.
NEWSFLASH
On Friday morning Noah, Theo, Lexie, along with some good friends from P4, led the P4/5 Assembly! This is something the children decided to do all by themselves and they have given up many breaks and lunchtimes in preparation. They worked very hard to create a fabulous presentation to highlight the issue of pollution and plastic waste. They did extremely well and all seven children have definitely proved themselves to be…

Hello Everyone
We would like to wish all parents and children a very Happy New Year! Our first week back flew in and we are delighted to see everyone feeling healthy again. The last couple of weeks before Christmas saw lots of us with horrible coughs and colds! We also would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the lovely cards and gifts you gave us at the end of last term. We were very lucky teachers indeed! It is much appreciated.
We are delighted to welcome Alanah to our class and hope she will be very happy at Cults Primary.
Our timetable remains the same as last term. We will focus on Numeracy at the beginning of the week and Literacy at the end. Our Topic is “The Sixties” and we hope the children will enjoy it.

Wednesday Library
Friday French
We aim to issue most homework on a Wednesday for the following Monday and spelling will be given on a Friday for the following Friday. Please can you remind your child to pack their homework jotters as we have yet to see ALL of them handed in on the correct day! Many thanks for your help with this.
There is a lot of lost property at this time of year so please can you ensure all items of clothing are named.
Several children need their “wet weather activity” replaced.
It would be great if everyone could “donate” a box of tissues to our class as we have totally run out. Thank you!
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge
We would like to remind everybody about this activity. We hope the children are reading regularly and completing their diaries. More details about the challenge can be found at www.readingchallenge.scot. We know we have some very keen readers in the class so if anyone is enjoying a book so much that they cannot put it down, please feel free to bring it in on Fridays for Golden Time or as a wet weather activity! I’m sure we can find a nice, quiet corner for you to snuggle up in!
Class Blog
Our eventual plan is for the children to take responsibility for this blog. Katie kindly agreed to start us off…but due to a technical hitch, her blog cannot yet be seen! Sorry, Katie.

Here’s to a happy and successful term!
Mrs Sinclair and Mrs Symon.
It was lovely to meet so many parents, relatives and friends at our Open Evening. Many thanks for coming along. The children are now confidently following the new routines in Primary Five and were delighted to show off a sample of their work so far.
One or two parents were keen for ideas to support their children with spelling. With homework this week, we have included a sheet with lots of different spelling activities on it, but the “look, cover, spell, check” method proves to be very successful for most children. Spending fives minutes practising every day ensures the words are “locked in”. Hope this helps.
Each year some of the children represent their class on a variety of committees. The following pupils have been chosen. This helps them on their journey to become:
