World Book Day – Thursday 3rd March

We are all looking forward to a fun packed day on Thursday as we celebrate World Book Day at Abbotswell! We have lots of super activities planned including writing a whole school story, making character puppets and story telling. Here are a few reminders of information relating to the day:

  • We would like every child to bring in a wooden spoon before Thursday so that we can use them to create character puppets on the day. Well done to those who have already brought one in!
  • The children are invited to enter our Extreme Reading Challenge Competition if they wish, by bringing in a photograph of themselves reading a book in an unusual or adventurous place! There will be a prize for the winner!
  • Raffle tickets will be on sale this week in school to win a signed copy of one of the Short listed Scottish Book Award Titles.
  • We would like all the children to come to school on Thursday dressed up as one of their favourite book characters and if they have a copy of the book they could bring it along with them on the day. There will be a whole school fancy dress parade in the afternoon and prizes awarded for some of the best costumes!

We are sure all the children (and Staff!) will have lots of fun on the day!

Pupil of the Week – Friday 26th February

Congratulation to Dami on receiving this week’s Pupil of the Week Award! Dami made a super effort with his Class Talk this week and it was lovely to see him sharing information confidently in front of his friends. Dami also scored full marks in his Big Maths Beat That Challenge for the first time. He was over the moon and so were we!! We are very proud of you Dami! Keep up the good work!

We were also delighted to see Murron receive a Playground Star Award this week! Murron received her award for always sharing her football and being a kind, caring friend to others. You are such a lovely girl Murron and a real role model in our class! We are very proud of you too!

Class notes – Week beginning 22nd February

image Abbotswell have some really exciting plans for World Book Day. On Thursday 3rd March we would like the pupils to dress up as their favourite book character. We have some really fun activities planned for the day and one of them will be making puppets. Please could all pupils take in a wooden spoon before World Book Day which we will decorate in class on the day. More details will follow soon of some of the other activities we have planned.

We recently enjoyed having guests into school to see our Katie Morag author study. On Wednesday 24th February from 3pm – 4pm we would like to give family members another opportunity to see all of our hard work. Pupils will be able to show and discuss their class work and  their favourite pieces of language, maths and topic work.

We will have another new face in the class this week but this time it’s not a new pupil. Miss Blair is coming from Aberdeen University  to work with our class until the Easter holidays. It’ll be great to have an additional teacher in the class to help us with our busy plans for the rest of the term.

Star of the Week – 12th February

Well done Amy for your Star of the Week award. You have worked really hard both in class and at home to improve your Beat That scores. All of your hard work with our Learn It facts has really paid off and we can’t believe how quickly and accurately you can recall them. You always rise to the challenge so keep it up!

Pupil of the Week – 5th February

Congratulations Megan for being our Star of the Week. Megan is a conscientious girl who always works hard to maintain a very high standard of presentation in all her written tasks. Her handwriting is an example to others and she always adds detailed and creative drawings. Her class work is always a treat for us to mark. Well done – you thoroughly deserve your Star of the Week award.

A special mention too for Lacey who received a Playground Star Award for having good manners and for being a good friend to others.

Scottish Book Awards

There was great excitement yesterday as we made a trip to Kincorth Library to finally post our votes for the Scottish Book Awards. We have really enjoyed exploring the 3 nominated books over the last few months and it was quite difficult to choose a favourite! We will have to wait until World Book Day in March to find out the overall winner but the result in our class was very close with Mouse’s First Night at Moonlight School by Simon Puttock just coming out on top with 11 votes. Here’s how we voted in Room 3….
