Homework – w.b. 25/9/18

It was lovely to see the boys and girls back at school today and to hear about what they had been doing during the long weekend!

Due to the long weekend, homework does not need to be handed in until Monday 1st October.  The children will have new reading books in their folders today, however new homework will not be issued this week.

Thank you!

Mrs Williams

Super Savers!

This term, our topic in Primary Two is all about ‘Our Caring World’.  The children will be learning about ways to care for the environment, the conservation of materials and how our needs and wants can affect the environment in which we live.

On Monday during assembly Miss Mackay explained that a special delivery had arrived in the school office and it was addressed to Primary Two!  The box contained an envelope for each class.  Inside the envelope we found our first mission!  The children are going to be taking on the role of ‘Super Savers’ who will help to make Cults Primary School a more caring place.   So far this week, we have received three missions.  It has been a very busy week in Primary Two!

Dear Primary 2s,

We have a mission for you, if you wish to accept it.

Can you help us to make Cults Primary School a more caring place?

We need some superheroes to save energy and encourage people to stop wasting materials.

Your first mission:

Transform yourself into a superhero and think about how you could help Cults Primary.

Your superhero should have:

  • A mask
  • A cape
  • A superhero suit
  • A name

Mission two will arrive tomorrow, be prepared to get messy. If you have any superhero masks or capes, please bring them in.

Dear Primary 2s,

Mission Three

Now that you are becoming a superhero, your next mission is to look around your house and bring in 3-5 items which can be recycled on Monday 17th September.

For example: You could bring a newspaper, a milk carton and a cardboard box.

Your next mission will arrive on Monday.

Here we are wearing our superhero masks and capes! We are ready for our next mission!

Welcome to P2W!

Hello and welcome to the P2W class blog.  I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday!  I am delighted to say that the children have all settled into Primary Two very well!

Our topic during the first two weeks of term has been ‘All About Me’.  It has been lovely to get to know the children better and to find out about their interests, families, likes and dislikes.  We have also been comparing similarities and differences and talking about being ‘unique’.

We have been revisiting our ‘Golden Rules’ and talking about why they are important.  The children can earn special golden rules certificates for following the golden rules.  Please continue to support your child to follow the golden rules by talking about them at home.

Literacy

We have been revisiting the ‘sh’ and the ‘ch’ sounds and consolidating our understanding of the sounds learned in Primary one.  The children have been practising using these sounds to support their reading and writing.  We have also been writing facts about ourselves.

Numeracy

We have been exploring our understanding of number bonds to support us with addition and subtraction.  We have also been using number lines and hundred squares to help us with counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and sequencing of numbers.

Here is the P2W timetable for this year:

Monday – Assembly, reading, homework to be handed in

Tuesday – ICT

Wednesday – PE with Miss Macrae, homework issued

Thursday – Health with Mrs Cox, reading, library

Friday – PE with Miss Macrae, golden time, show and tell

Please ensure that your child brings these things with them to school every day (some things can be left at school):

-a named water bottle

-snack

-gym kit

-art apron

-indoor shoes

-reading folder – reading books and reading record

-wet weather activity book

Homework

You will find a letter explaining P2 homework in your child’s folder this week.  Homework in P2 should take no longer than 15 minutes per day, so please don’t feel that you have to do all of the activities in one go!  The activities can be revisited regularly to help the children to consolidate their understanding.  I hope that you find the homework information and resources helpful.  Please see me if you have any questions about homework.

Please feel free to comment on the blog this year.  If you have any questions or comments, please come to see me at the end of the day.  I look forward to working with you all this year!

Mrs Williams
