P1/2 Class Blog

Primary ones will continue to introduce single sounds following the Jolly Phonics programme. Please continue to help your child with reading and learning common words at home.

Primary twos will continue with our Active Literacy approaches. We have weekly spelling lists for children to learn for homework. They will bring home a variety of books to read.

Primary ones have been learning to recognise, write and order numbers to 10 and will soon be ready to start adding 2 numbers together. We will be introducing Big Maths “Learn Its” which we will send home to practice.

Primary twos are working on addition and subtraction to 20 this term and working on 2D and 3D shapes. We continue to try to beat our score in our weekly Big Maths Beat That challenge. Practising “Learn Its” at home can really help!

We have been discussing the importance of looking after your teeth and washing your hands. In P.E. we will continue to improve our ball skills and have been enjoying working co-operatively.

Our topic is ‘Toys’. We will be learning about toys from the past and investigating how toys work. Our role play area will be a toy shop. Your child will be asked to bring a favourite toy to show the class and talk about.

Our gym days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Shorts and gym shoes are needed on these days.

Usually, reading days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. This can change so blue folders should be brought to school every day.

Primary 1P Term 4

We have had another very busy term!

Our topic this term is “Under the sea.” We have been finding out about various sea creatures using books and the internet.
In Science we have carried out floating and sinking inverstigations and made our own boats using tin foil.
We read and discussed the Rainbow Fish story to reinforce the importance of sharing with our friends.

We have been continuing work on addition and subtraction and are presently looking at telling the time using analogue and digital clocks.

We continue to learn new sounds and common words in school and practise our words at home so we can do our best in Friday’s Spelling Test. In the classroom we have a range of letter/word activities following the “Active Literacy” approach.

Miss Traill returned to our class this term. She has recently had resonsibility for the class for a a period of 15 continuous days teaching as she nears the end of her training. We will all miss her when she leaves at the end of this week.

As we approach the end of this session I would like to thank all parents for your continued co-operation and support.
Mrs Pirie

Primary 1P Term 3

This term our topic is “The North Pole.” We have been finding out about Arctic animals using books and the internet. We are presently investigating the life of the Inuit.
We will also be doing experiments with water, recording our observations and making predictions.

We will be working on ordering numbers, addition within 10 and also subtraction. We will continue to explore numbers through mental maths, games and interactive whiteboard activities. All children will use the RM Maths computer programme daily.

We will continue with our Active Literacy approach, learning our sounds and common words. The children will be reading in groups and will bring home a variety of books for you to read together. We will be learning to write stories more independently using individual word books.

A few reminders……

Homework diaries should be brought to school every day. Please sign and traffic light homework to help support your child.

Gym days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has gym shoes and shorts for this.

Thank you,

Mrs Pirie

In term 1 we settled into the routine of Primary 1.

We began learning our letter sounds using Jolly Phonics and started to read, write and spell common words.

We have been working with numbers 1 to 10, using them to count, create sequences and describe order.

Health and wellbeing
This term we have done some work on ‘Friendship and Feelings.’ We have had 2 hours of Physical Education a week and have started toothbrushing as part of our routine.

Our topic this term has been ‘Garthdee.’ We have shared what we know about our local area and have been out and about in the streets surrounding the school.

Please be reminded that homework diaries and reading folders should be brought to school daily.

Thank you for your support,
Mrs Pirie
