In assembly this morning, we reminded ourselves of the video from two weeks ago about the two girls in South Africa. I was so impressed with what the children remembered. We then watched the clip again and participated in a follow up activity. I had written out statements that best suited one of the girls. The children grouped these to match either girl 1 or girl 2 and justified their response; again such well thought out answers to demonstrate effective learning. Bringing the conservation back to rights, we discussed who had an education out of the two girls and who had a right to an education out of them both. I was so delighted that all knew only one girl received an education but both have the right. This really does show the children are learning a lot about this.
Stars of the Week
Star Class were P1S. Many from P1S volunteered answers and followed our assembly rules.
The film obviously had an impact on the children …. this is encouraging as it shows they were engaged and able to understand the issue of deprivation.
I am glad my boy is learning about this as I would hope it helps him develop a sense of compassion and justice for people.
