Teddy Bear’s Picnic

On Wednesday we had our picnic and presentation at the Woodies. It was cold but we had a great time with our families and carers. After the food we were presented with our Learning Journeys, certificates and picture books. Well done boys and girls, you have all been working hard in nursery learning new things and now it is time for some of you to move on to primary one. All the staff in nursery wish you well as you move on in your learning journey!

The Critter Keeper

Today we enjoyed an exotic animal and insect workshop with Dave the Critter Keeper. He brought along amongst others Kaa the Royal Python, Kermit the Tree Frog, a gecko, a tarantula, Sonic the Hedgehog and Marshmallow the Rabbit. Dave told us all about the animals and we were allowed to look at them close up. The children were able to touch some of the animals if they were brave enough! This fantastic educational experience was enjoyed by all.

Our Nursery Sports

Today we had lots of fun taking part in our annual nursery potted sports. The theme was minibeasts and other small creatures! After our potted sports we ran some flat races and then had our snack. The staff were very proud of the children as their behaviour and keenness to do their best was excellent. Well done boys and girls! Thank you to all who came to watch and support the children!

Our butterflies

Exciting news! Over the last few weeks we have been watching our caterpillars turn into butterflies. It has been exciting to watch part of their life cycle and now it was time to release them. We watched as they were released one by one.

Little Red Riding Hood

Today some of the children from Room 11 came to nursery to read their versions of the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We enjoyed listening to you read your stories whilst we ate our snack. What a lot of hard work to get your stories ready and Mrs Walker was very impressed with your neat handwriting too! Lily enjoyed welcoming her brother to nursery to read to her. Thank you very much boys and girls!

Minibeast hunting at the Woodies

We went on a minibeast hunt at the Woodies on Wednesday. If you look very carefully it is amazing  how many different minibeasts you can see in our local area. We had fun trying to identify them! We also had our snack outdoors which was fun!

Easter Eggs

We had a great time on Wednesday hunting for eggs at the Woodies and rolling our eggs, which we had decorated ourselves, down the hill! When we arrived back at nursery we discovered a delicious surprise waiting for us! Have a great Easter break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 18th April. Happy Easter to you all.

Science Week

We have been busy celebrating British Science Week by taking part in a variety of science experiments! We have watched a volcano erupting and planted some beans. We will watch them grow in the light and dark. We explored forces at the Woodies and used our senses playing with gloop. We investigated a chemical reaction when we played with ‘magic milk’. The children have enjoyed our science focus, it has also facilitated lots of opportunities to develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

Outdoor Learning

This week we took the opportunity to spend time in the Wildlife Garden and the playground. The children were busy playing with hoops, balls and quoits. They enjoyed mark making with chalks, water and a selection of paint brushes. We were unable to go to the Woodies as we did not have enough volunteers. If you or someone in your family is able to support us please sign up for a Woodies session. Our children enjoy the freedom of being outdoors and we therefore appreciate your help with this important part of learning in our nursery setting.
