Doctors and tree climbing

This week the children have been exploring the role of a doctor in the role play area. They have been setting up appointments, waiting in the waiting room, and treating patients.

On Wednesday we took the children to the open area of the Woodies for the first time. They did a wonderful job staying within their coned boundaries!

The children appeared to enjoy exploring this new environment. They balanced and climbed on the ‘listening log’, explored the leaves and moss with magnifying glasses and pickers, and had races up and down the hill. At the end of the session, most of the Grasshoppers evaluated their session by giving it a thumbs up! A few children said that they preferred the gated area of the Woodies, so we will continue to be flexible about which area we use, based on what we are doing.

Doctors and the Gym Trail

This week, we voted and decided that we were going to learn about doctors. We have been very engaged in our doctor role play!

Due to the ice on Wednesday, we assessed that it was too risky to take the children to the Woodies. The playground was gritted, so we decided to go out to the Gym Trail with the Bees instead. While playing, we were developing our balance, concentration, and gross motor skills.

Talking and thinking box and Children in Need

This week we explored a ‘talking and thinking’ box about people and services in our community. The box had pictures and objects linked to firemen, doctors and nurses, cafes, and shops. We enjoyed touching, looking at, and discussing everything in the box. Next week we will decide which one we would like to learn about.

On Thursday, we had a Spot-tacular day raising money for Children in Need in our pyjamas. Together, all of the nursery classes raised £126.70! Thank you for your donations!

A busy week in the Grasshopper nursery

It has been a busy week in the Grasshopper nursery!

On Monday, we joined up with the Bees and had great fun dancing and playing games at our Halloween party. We played ‘Pass the Pumpkin’, ‘Musical Monsters’, ‘Ghost, Ghost, Witch’, and had a dancing competition!

On Tuesday, we put our helmets on and went outside for ‘Wheeled Toys!’ We have been learning how to negotiate and share the wheeled toys. We have also been learning about boundaries and keeping safe. The children know that they are not supposed to go past the cones that set our boundaries. They also know that they should find an adult if they are upset or need help.

On Wednesday, we went to the Woodies! At the moment, we are using the fenced area of the Woodies while we continue to discuss rules and boundaries with the children. The children are beginning to understand the rules of the Woodies:

1- Do not go past the cones (that mark our boundaries)! 2- Get a grown up if you see dog mess. 3- Have fun!

We continue to have in interest in climbing trees, and playing with the crisp Autumn leaves.

In nursery, we have been learning about Autumn. We’ve been learning about the different festivals and celebrations that happen in Autumn, like Halloween and Bonfire night. We have also been exploring and sorting Autumn foliage. Some children have been looking through books and stories about Autumn and mark making what they have learned.

Welcome to the new term!

Welcome to the new term! The children have been observing changes in the weather and their environment, and have been enjoying learning about Autumn.

Now that most of our afternoon children are settled into their nursery routine, we have begun our weekly trips to the Woodies. This week, the children enjoyed climbing trees, exploring with magnifying glasses, mark-making about the changes in the environment, and using ribbons to ‘test the wind.’
