Aberdeen Youth Games

Primary 5 were joined by the 5s from the P5/6 on a trip to Aberdeen Sports Village to take part in the Aberdeen Youth Games. We were fortunate to have fantastic weather which lasted the entire day. We participated in skills and games in tennis, basketball and hockey. Just before lunch we walked round the running track with all the pupils and chanted our school name. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day, even if a little tired after all the exercise.

World of Work Week

P5 have had a busy week learning about the World of Work.

Football Coach
Kieran has won Young Coach of the Year for Aberdeen, Scotland and the UK!

Photographer
We had a great time learning about photography from Karen and getting to try it for ourselves.

Supply Chain Manager
Finding out about all the parts that make up a Supply Chain Manager’s job was very interesting. We even got to see a real baby ROV!

Physiotherapist
Fiona was able to answer lots of our questions about physiotherapy. It was cool seeing the spine.

Thank you to all our visitors this week, we’ve had a great time hearing about your jobs.

K’NEX ChristMaths Workshop

On Wednesday 21st December P5 took part in a K’NEX workshop. Pupils were asked to create a Christmas decoration or present using the K’NEX pieces. Each piece costed a certain amount and groups were given a budget of £5 and had to work out the cost of their end product. All teams successful stayed within the budget, created their product and worked out the costing within the time limit. Pupils were then asked to vote for item they liked the best and was best value for money. The winning team made a pair of snowflake glasses.

Scottish SPCA – Animal 999

On Tuesday 10th January we received a visit from the Scottish SPCA to learn about their work helping animals in emergency situations. Pupils watched a video of the Scottish SPCA in action, played a game that taught them some facts about animals and were given the opportunity to ask the animal rescue officer questions.

Bulb Planting

P5 went to Hazlehead Park to do bulb planting on Wednesday 16th November. This was part of Fernielea’s link with the community. We planted 5000 crocus bulbs! We really enjoyed being outside to hear and see the beautiful park. When the plants grow they become beautiful flowers.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Primary 5 have been selling poppies to raise money for the Scottish Poppy Appeal. They also gave an assembly about Remembrance on 11th November to the whole school. Here are some photos taken at the assembly.

Chocolate Tasting

This term Primary 5 have been learning about chocolate.
– How Chocolate is made
– The History of Chocolate
– Ingredients in Chocolate
– Designing chocolate bar wrappers
– Reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
– Drawing ourselves as Oompa Loompas
– Trying to find Golden tickets

To end our topic on ‘The Journey of Chocolate’ P5 had a chocolate tasting session. They had to grade the chocolates on their smell, look, texture and taste. After this pupils were asked to put the chocolates in order of preference.
Have a look at us sampling the chocolates and the final results.
