Important notice for Monday 5th October

On Monday, 5th October, I will not be in school so Miss Morrison will be taking the class. Mrs Webster will take them for a PE session also on this day. I will be back on Tuesday and the class are lucky as they will still get their PE session with Mrs Webster as usual.
So for next week, the children will need to wear their PE kit on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Adventure Aberdeen

Some pupils were developing their biking skills today with Adventure Aberdeen going over ladders, a seesaw and ramps. So proud of them all building their confidence to do the obstacles! An even bigger surprise for one pupil who could not ride a bike without falling off, actually managed to ride confidently and even gave an obstacle a go! Very well done everyone.

Welcome to Primary 4/5. Our first newsletter.

Primary 4/5 newsletter – Term 1

Welcome back to Primary 4/5. I am your child’s class teacher, Miss Petrie and have already had the pleasure of teaching all the pupils when I taught STEM last year, which is great as we already know each other. We will be accompanied by Mr Hardy this year, our PSA full time in class.

Firstly, a massive thank you and well done to all the parents, grandparents and family members for their hard work over the few months while we were on lockdown, by helping your child with their online learning. It was a strange experience but one that was handled wonderfully by you all. The work produced by pupils was amazing. Please rest assured that, as a school, we will work hard to continue the children’s learning journey.

Things may be a little different at school at present with the current situation. Your child has been informed of the new ways in which things are happening at Fernielea and we will do our best to keep them as normal as possible. If there are any concerns, do not hesitate to email the school office fernielea@aberdeencity.gov.uk or you can phone school and ask to book an appointment to speak to me if necessary.

This term, we will be looking at basic number and measurement in Maths. We will be incorporating as much outdoor learning as we can to link to their learning so please ensure your child has a waterproof jacket with them. We will also continue with Big Maths and try to beat our scores each Friday.
Our class novel will be, ‘The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog’ and we will be working closely with the text to develop our higher order reading skills. We will also be exploring feelings and emotions for Health and Wellbeing.

Mrs Webster will take the class every second Tuesday for PE and I will take them on a Tuesday the other week. We will also have PE on a Thursday so please ensure all children wear PE clothing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. PE will be outside so please ensure they have comfortable tracksuit bottoms or gym leggings, a t-shirt, a hoodie for cooler days and also a waterproof jacket. It is advisable to bring a change of trainers and socks for days when the grass may be wet so children do not have wet feet all day.

Reading will be heard on a Monday and Wednesday and books taken in on a Thursday.

A small reminder to please only bring in a school bag if it is required. Your child will only require a water bottle everyday and change of trainers/socks on PE days and this will help greatly with ensuring space in the classroom.

If you have Twitter, please add me @petriemiss so you can catch up with photos and details of what your child has been up to in class!

Thank you
Miss Petrie
