Book Reviews

Since the start of Term 2, the Primary 1s have been looking at identifying the beginning, middle and end of a story. They have really been enjoying their new reading books and they are getting really good at being able to retell the story.

This week, the Primary 2s have been looking at writing their own book reviews for their reading books. They are getting really good at describing their favourite part of the story clearly.

Room on the Broom

As part of our topic on Julia Donaldson books, we got to read Room on the Broom. We really liked this story and had fun trying to see how many different rhyming words we could spot. After we read the story, P1/2 designed their own magnificent broomsticks!

Circle Time: Being A Good Friend

Last week during circle time, Primary 1/2 talked about how we could be good friends to each other. Everyone had lots of great ideas including sharing our toys with each other, helping someone if they fall over, and inviting people to play with us.

Here are some examples of how some of the children in P1/2 think they can be a good friend:

Superworm

Over the past two weeks, P1/2 have been reading Superworm as part of our topic on Julia Donaldson. We really enjoyed this book and discovered lots of rhyming words in it!

We all drew a picture of our favourite part from the story. Here are a few of them:

We especially liked when the bees used Superworm as a skipping rope and when the lizard got tied up and dumped in the rubbish pile!

Marvellous Me – Murphy the Monkey

This week the class were introduced to Murphy the Monkey. We have been working really hard to earn Marvellous Me points for being kind to our classmates, working hard, and making good choices. At the end of the week, the child with the most points gets to take Murphy home for the weekend. P1/2 were very excited about this!

Below you will find the letter that goes home with Murphy the Monkey inside his weekend bag.

A Busy Week Ahead!

We can’t believe we are starting week 4 of school already! The P1s in our class started school full time today which is very exciting. The P2s are looking forward to showing them how we spend our afternoons in P1/2. This week the P1s will have their first PE class with our PE specialist Mr Friel. We have been learning all about movement, balances and gymnastics. It has been great fun!

Last Tuesday some of our P1 parents came into school for a curriculum talk and then had lunch with us in the dining hall. They were very well behaved. It was exciting to try it on our own today!

We are all really enjoying our book study topic at the moment, reading lots of different Julia Donaldson books. Last week we read “Sharing a Shell”. Then we decorated our own shells and wrote down different things that we can share with each other in our class. Our sharing shells are now up on our classroom window for everyone to see.

This week we are continuing with our Julia Donaldson stories, looking at “One Mole Digging a Hole”. The P1s will continue to look at their numbers to 5 and P2s are starting to look at counting on and back in 2s.

Watch this space as we continue to share more of our learning with you!

Welcome to our class blog

Welcome to Primary 1/2. We hope to keep you up-to-date on our learning throughout the year though our class blog.

We are just settling into week 2 of our new class and we have been spending lots of time learning about our classmates and our new teacher. We have also been sharing stories from our summer holidays and having lots of fun.

Numeracy: The Primary 1’s have been busy learning about the numbers 1 and 2! They’re having lots of fun learning how to write those numbers and different ways of showing those numbers using ten-frames and numicon.

Primary 2’s have been practising their addition and subtraction to 10. They are also getting very good at finding the mystery number.

Literacy: We have started our reading groups again in class this week. Reading will be done with P2s on a Monday and a Wednesday. P2s have also started learning some more of their double sounds this week!

Last week P1s learnt their first sound – ‘s‘. This week they have continued with their sounds, learning ‘a‘ and ‘t‘. We are getting really good at our jolly phonics actions and songs now!
