Our P1s recently finished another block of their Jolly Phonics sounds and this time we decided to do something a little different to show our learning. We’ve made a video to tell you all about it instead!

Scottish Book Week
It’s Scottish Book Week and we had a fantastic time visiting our new school library for the grand opening today. The new library has so many amazing books and a big comfy sofa too! We are all very excited to have our first class library slot there next week. After seeing our new library, we all got to choose a book to take home and keep. We also got great Book Bug bags that we are really excited about.
In the afternoon, the Primary 1’s parents came in for a literacy workshop to find out about the phonics activities the P1’s do to help them learn their sounds. Everyone had lots of fun – including the parents! The Primary 1’s also did an amazing job performing some nursery rhymes. Thank you to everyone who came along to the workshop!
Learning Update
We have settled in really well to Term 2 and have been doing lots of different learning.
First of all we want to say a huge well done to one of our P2s for winning one of the prizes in our school book cover competition to celebrate the opening of our new school library. A huge well done!
Our Primary 1s have been spending lots of time on word building and are getting really good at being able to identify the different sounds within words. We then practised writing these on the SMART board. Look how good our letter formation is getting too!
Finally as part of our science, we have been learning about germs – especially as it’s coming up to winter when lots of us get colds! We used red paint to help us see how germs can spread on our hands. Now we make sure we wash our hands properly with soap to help stop us sharing those germs!
People Who Help Us: Firefighters
We have started learning about people who help us. This week we were looking at firefighters because it was Bonfire Night. We had fun learning about some of the different situations that firefighters are needed to help people. We all came up with our own emergency scenario where we think a firefighter might be needed. Here are a few of our scenarios.
Book Reviews
Since the start of Term 2, the Primary 1s have been looking at identifying the beginning, middle and end of a story. They have really been enjoying their new reading books and they are getting really good at being able to retell the story.
This week, the Primary 2s have been looking at writing their own book reviews for their reading books. They are getting really good at describing their favourite part of the story clearly.
