What does a plant need to grow well?

Primary 7 are learning about plants and what they need to grow well. Today we planted chillies, cauliflower, courgettes, beetroot, broad beans, basil, mange tout, radishes, tomatoes and onion springs. We are going to take really good care of them and we hope to taste them when they are fully grown.

World of Work Week

Dan who is a Personal Trainer visited Primary 7 to tell us all about his job and the pathway he took to do it.  He gave us all really good advice that is important to do a job that you enjoy when we were older.  Dan then did a Personal Training session with us.  It was great fun, we loved doing burpees and butterfly kicks the best.

World of Work Week

Will Burnish who is a Civil Engineer for Aberdeen City Council visited Primary 7 to tell us all about his job and the pathway he took to get there.  He showed us lots of interesting pictures of jobs he had worked on and told us stories about them.  He set us an engineering challenge with a design brief.  We had to make a bridge using only sticky tape and straws which had a span of 225mm.  It had to hold a glue stick and then a paper weight.

World of Work Week

Christer who is a ‘Project Engineer’ from Wood Group came to visit Primary 7 this week to tell us all about his job and the pathway he took to get there.  Christer told us what skills are desirable not only in his job but in every job.  In addition to this he gave us advice on how to follow our aspirations and become what we want to be when we are older.  Christer set us an engineering challenge to make a table which was strong enough to hold a dictionary made out of only paper.  Some were a real success!

This week we visited Summerhill Home to sing some songs from WW2. The ladies favourite was “We’ll Meet Again” as they all sang along to it. After we sang they gave us something to drink and eat which was really nice of them. We stayed to chat and see how all the ladies are.

Water Filters

This week during Science we continued to look at the different ways in which dirty water can be filtered.  This time we layered sand/dirt, moss and stones into a bottle.  The first times we poured the dirty water into the filter we found it didn’t fully clean the water however we kept filtering it through and each time we saw an improvement. img_00291 img_00301
