Look At What We Have Been Learning!

Primary 2 have been busy this term learning about keeping healthy. We have learned about keeping our teeth healthy, healthy food and the skeleton.

In Art we had fun making a collaged picture of our favourite fruit.

We discussed being active and the children discussed what their favourite sport is. The most popular sport in the class was gymnastics, followed by football!

In Science we have been learning about plants and what they need to help them grow. We have panted our own sunflowers and we are keeping a sunflower diary to record them growing. Hopefully they will grow really tall!

We have also been learning about our rights through the Rights Respecting School and we had to work in partners to consider our needs and wants. This lead to some very interesting discussions!

World Of Work Week!

This week the children have been exploring the World Of Work! They have developed their knowledge of different jobs and the skills needed to do them. They have also considered what they might like to do when they grow up.

We had some visitors in to tell us about their job. Firstly, we had an Offshore Medic who came in and told us about his job. He showed us the uniform he has to wear and the medical bag he has to carry. He also showed us a map of the different parts of the World he could be called to. It was very interesting!

The children were very excited when a fire engine appeared in the playground yesterday! Thankfully there was no fire! They had come to tell the children all about the job of a fireman and they showed us the different parts of the fire engine. It was very interesting to learn that there is at least five different sized ladders on a fire engine. The children had lots of fun getting hands on with the hoses, cones and hats! Before the fireman left they let the children hear the siren. It was a highlight for many of the children this week!

In class the children have also been busy writing stories about what they want do when they grow up and drawing pictures.

For Red Nose Day the children came dressed up as their “Future Me”. We had Policemen, a singer, a DJ, Footballers and a Zookeeper to name just a few.

World Book Day!

The children had lots of fun last week dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day! We had Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Cinderella and Horrid Henry to name just a few!

We also had lots of fun being Authors and writing our own Katie Morag stories.

Scotland!

The children have been very busy learning about Katie Morag and the Island she lives on. We have explored the Island of Struay and identified the main features on a map. There are lots of features including a lighthouse, loch and a castle.

In Maths the children have been introduced to a new resource called Numicon. Numicon are coloured tiles which represent numbers one to ten. These can be used in a variety of ways to support the children with their learning in Maths. So far the children have been playing games with the Numicon to become more familiar with the number each tile represents.
