Aberdeen Science Centre and Aberdeen Sports Village

We are currently learning how to stay healthy through exercise.  We are learning how our body works and how it responds to exercise.  We loved our class trip to Aberdeen Science Centre to learn more about how the body works.  We also enjoyed visiting Aberdeen Sports Village to participate in a range of sporting activities, including basketball, hockey and athletics! It was a great day!  Here are some photos of us on our class trip….

World of Work Week

Today the children thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the Fire Brigade.  They loved meeting the firefighters and they learned lots about all the equipment they use.  It was very exciting seeing the fire engine, especially when the sirens were on!  It was a very inspirational and motivational visit.  Here are some photos linked to the learning.

World Book Day!

We had lots of fun dressing up for World Book Day!  In class the P1 children were creating their own books of their favourite animals!  The P2 children were uplevelling some of their imaginative Katie Morag stories from last week to create their very own Katie Morag book.  They also had to create a front cover with the relevant information and write an interesting blurb for their stories.  In the afternoon the children enjoyed some fun drama activities with Miss Diansangu who is currently working in our class too!  They confidently presented their role play demonstrations in small groups to the rest of the class.  I was very impressed with every group!

Pancake Day!

The boys and girls in P1/2 had lots of fun making pancakes in class!  We were measuring the ingredients very carefully.  The pancakes tasted delicious which I am sure you can tell from the very happy faces in these photos!

Where can we buy food?

We have been learning about the different types of shops, such as butchers, bakers, chemists, green grocers and supermarkets.  This week we received another letter from Space Monkey asking what Shrove Tuesday was and why we celebrate it.  So we decided to teach Space Monkey some facts.  We also decided to take Space Monkey to our local Tesco store to buy some ingredients to make pancakes at school!  In Tesco we enjoyed looking at the different areas and we split into small groups to each find an ingredient.  We then bought our ingredients using money, we had to choose the correct coins.

Space Monkey

Space Monkey arrived at Fernielea School today!  The P1 children were out walking around the school when they found Space Monkey in a tree!  He told us his rocket had broken so he had landed in our playground.  Luckily, as we have been learning all about our Local Community we are able to help him!  Today we wrote letters which we are going to post to his parents.  In our letters we included drawings of ourselves, Fernielea School and Space Monkey.  We needed to let them know that he is safe at Fernielea School and we also needed to ask them a lot of questions!  We hope they will be able to send another rocket to collect him, although we are very excited that it is our job to look after him in the meantime!  Tomorrow we will be learning about the Post Office and the journey of a letter so that we understand exactly what will happen when we post our letters.  We will keep you updated!  Here are some photos of Space Monkey with the boys and girls.  There are also photos of us writing our very important letters!

Happy Christmas Holidays from P1/2M

We have been getting into the Christmas festive spirit with our Christmas Concert, Christmas Lunch, Christmas Parties and Christmas Church Service.  We also had a lovely afternoon making Christmas decorations with some of the P5/6 children.  Here are some photos of this week at school to look at.  We hope you all enjoy the holidays!
