This term we have been learning about polar animals and where they live.  We have explored ice, how it is formed and what causes it to melt.

We wondered how we would make ice.  some children thought that you put water in the fridge.  other children said “you put water in the freezer”.  We put some water in the freezer, some in the fridge and some outside to see what would happen.

The children told us about the different clothes they wear to keep warm when playing outside in the winter.  They were not sure how animals keep warm so we did an experiment to find out how polar animals keep warm in the ice and snow.  The children put their hand into a bowl of icy water.  They put their other hand into icy water with the protection of ‘blubber’ (lard in a plastic bag).
