Application Forms

We had to write application forms for the job we wanted in our enterprise topic, the jobs were: Manager, Assistant Manager, Advertising Manager, Assistant Advertising Manager, Secretary, Soap manufacturer, Deliverer and much more. We are getting interviewed on Tuesday the 26th of January. There are 2 teams, a soap making team called Bubbly Explosions and a football team called Kick It. Kick It is organising a football tournament and Bubbly Explosions are making soap and selling it.

We had to answer lots of questions, here are some of them: why do you want the job? What skills do you feel that you could bring to the job? What are your hobbies and how do you think they would help you in the job? Give an example of when you worked well in a group and why it went well? Give an example of when you worked as part of a group and it didn’t go well. How did you overcome the problems?

It was very fun typing our application forms but it was also very hard to think of all our ideas.

Rights Respecting Schools

Recently, we have been doing “Rights Respecting Schools”, which is about the U.N.C.R.C (United Nations Convention On the Rights of the Child). We have done multiple lessons on the subject, including using posters to encourage learning you rights, making our own cartoons for these rights and even watching cartoons based on the rights . Most people enjoyed these lessons, and had plenty of fun.

A few weeks ago we were given the task to make our own posters promoting the U.N.C.R.C. They are currently on display in our classroom, as shown on this page. Each group made their own poster and they were completed within a time period of two weeks. Then, we were given homework to make our own cartoons. We could do this in multiple ways, which include: writing a “narrative description”, creating comic strips, drawing a series of wordless images or making our own animated clip.These were due in today, and most of them looked pretty good.

Three weeks before that, we had been watching cartoons and naming what articles they affirming or showing being violated.

Rollercoasters

In term 2 Room 16 designed and built our very own Disney Rollercoasters. To create our Rollercoasters we brought in junk materials from home. So we started with designing our own Disney themed rollercoaster on paper. Then we picked the best one from the table or you could join some ideas  together. Then we had to use our junk materials to make them, it was really fun and challenging because we didn’t with some things. We got fake £1000 to buy more materials like paint, lolly pop sticks, scissors, paper, card, tape and straws.

Leila’s group rollercoaster

My group made a Rapunzel themed rollercoaster which was very hard to build but I had an amazing time building it with all of my other teammates. At first we were very stuck with ideas on how to build it but later on the ideas started to flow in and I was very relieved and ecstatic to start building our very own Disney rollercoaster. Our ride was very thrilling but because I love rollercoasters, I would definitely go on it myself. Our ride started with going up Rapunzel’s tower in your cart where loads of joyful songs played along the way. You then went out the tower and the ride (which we called the Rapunzel express) began.

First there was a big drop and then a sharp turn to a big swirl then a loop. Next it was under the bridge to get sprayed with water then up into a massive cushion and the ride was finished. I had an amazing time building the Rapunzel express and I would love to be able to build a group rollercoaster another time.

 

 

Ellie’s group rollercoaster

It all began with us planning our own quirky individual rides, then as a group we decided to do a mix of all our rides to keep everyone happy. I felt proud of myself because I got a bit of my ride in our 3-D model.

Our  Disney themed rollercoaster included these themes:

Finding Nemo (which was my idea) Frozen, Marvel and The Jungle Book. Our ride started with the theme the Jungle Book it up a steep long hill straight into Frozen (which snowed all the way through it) whilst let it go played the whole way through Frozen. We then went down a quick drop in to my theme Finding Nemo, our cart rapidly turned into a submarine and submerged into the dark peaceful water while watching the fish go calmly by you then popped up and and went sped round the ride another time. While you were going around the ride marvel was in the middle of the ride with planets everywhere (well they were really just bouncy balls.

Maths Challenge

We where set a challenge to build a 3D shape. Which was called a pentahedron. Then we were told to make another 3D shape, out of the pentahedrons. It was very challenging for all the groups to work out the shapes and where to put them, but in the end it was an icosahedron.

You needed 20 pentahedrons to make the icosahedron. The wonder diamonds completed the task first. All the other groups followed soon after. We then had to count how many faces, points and edges the icosahedron had.

Overall the icosahedron had 20 faces, 15 points and 30 edges. We thought the task was hard but fun at the same time. We are now using then to play maths games, to help us improve our times tables.

Christmas Party – Term 2, Friday 17th December

Every year, we have a Christmas party, which differs each year. The Christmas party involved Scottish Country dancing (which we had practised weekly for the day) , games, and then we had food. Playing games is hungry work J. We all wore party or Christmas clothing, which was a change considering we wear school uniform all year round.

 

The Scottish Country Dancing was fantastic, and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. We did dances such as the Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, an Arcadian Strip the Willow and the Dancing White Sergeant . Mr Hewitt and Miss O’Flynn joined in as well.

After that, we all went upstairs to the GP Room for some games. We played enjoyable party games, such as “Musical Bumps”, “Musical Statues”, “Corners” and “Pass the Parcel”. The winners of each game won a small prize. Everyone who was eliminated from the games received a small sweet.

 

We then went upstairs for the food.  We had food like cocktail sausages, grapes, cheese and crisps, accompanied with water.

Bubblegum and Fluff Class Trip – Term 2, Friday 18th December

On Friday 18th December, our class went to the South Holburn Church for a class trip named “Bubblegum and Fluff”. It revolved around two puppets “Callum and Alex” and one interrupting sheep.  The trip consisted of fun activities, such as watching videos, singing songs, playing games (e.g Corners) and crafts.

The storyline was about a boy named Callum, who hadn’t looked under his bed for around 6 years. He eventually did look, only to find 6-year-old bubblegum, complete with dog hair,  an old plaster, fluff and a bit of old toffee. He ate it. He must’ve been hungry, because he ate right through all the disgusting layers on the surface of the bubblegum, and got right through to the actual bubblegum. The “moral” was: Never judge someone/something by their outsides.

It was an entertaining trip, and most of us thoroughly enjoyed it. We did multiple crafts activities, such as: Word searches, Puzzles and Christmas tile art.

Playground Carol Concert

On the last day of term room 16 joined the other primary 6 children in performing a selection of Christmas carols to parents at the end of the school day.   The audience was also treated to mulled wine(non-alcoholic) and biscuits as the enjoyed the cheerful performance put on by the primary six children.

Among the songs sung were classic like Jingle Bells, We Wish you a Merry Christmas and The 12 days of Christmas. The children also performed the songs Herod and Our Story has been told, which they had sung previously at the torchlight service.
