Summer!

This week we completed our bug hotels. We have placed them in the wildlife garden for all the bugs to use.  We hope they like their new homes.

I can’t quite believe that we have reached the end of Primary 2 already. It has been a fantastic year and I wish everyone the best of luck in Primary 3. Have an amazing summer Room 10!

Trip to Duthie Park

We had lots of fun creating mini beasts today and using our bug pots to identify different bugs that we found. We were able to find spiders, beetles, centipedes, millipedes and snails.

Releasing the butterflies

Yesterday it was time to say goodbye to the butterflies and release them into the wild.

We went to visit Cafe 24. We ate lots of yummy cakes.

We also had great fun learning about different bugs on our trip to Aberdeen Science Centre.

Talks

Primary 2 have been preparing talks about their favourite mini beasts. They did very well delivering them to the class. We now know lots of interesting facts about different mini beasts.

We were very kindly invited through to P2/3 to look at their pyramids. We enjoyed giving them feedback on their designs.

Butterflies have arrived!

Primary 2 are very excited to announce that Wiggles and Alvin have now hatched into beautiful butterflies.

Wiggles wings have turned from brown to orange. We are feeding them juicy tangerine to help them grow strong and help their wings grow.

Matisse Montages

Our caterpillars have now moved to their new home in the chrysalis station.

We have been researching the artist Henri Matisse. We know that he liked to use bright colours and  cut out shapes to create montages. One of his most famous pieces was called ‘The Snail.’  Luisa’s family very kindly donated some canvases to our class so we decided to recreate our own montage of a snail on canvas.

This week our star writers wrote fantastic acrostic poems about different mini beasts.

Caterpillar update

Fruity Friday: please remember to bring a piece of fruit for your snack each Friday.

The caterpillars have now attached themselves to the lid of their home and some of them have started to turn into a chrysalis.

In maths this week we have been learning how to break down a number into hundreds, tens and units. We had fun playing team games to learn this skill.

We used Word Art and Clip Art to design mini beast bookmarks during our ICT time.

Caterpillar Crazy

This week some new arrivals joined Primary 2, Room 10. Meet Milly, Billy, Amy, Alvin and Wriggles. We have been watching them grow and researching some fun facts about caterpillars.

We took Primary 2/3 on a mini beast hunt in the Woodies. We enjoyed sharing the facts we have learned with them. We completed charts to investigate what kind of habitats mini beasts live in.

Art Activities

Please note that Mrs McIntosh will no longer be teaching our class due to staffing issues.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been working hard to improve our artistic and fine motor skills. As part of our learning in RME we have been learning about different Hindu traditions. We took inspiration from mehndi patterns to create our own hand designs.

We have also been learning how to quill. We found it quite tricky to begin with but now we are really quick at rolling the coils. We made different mini beasts using this technique.
