This Week In P7

On Monday, we found out that we’d won the Bible Exhibition Quiz which we took part at the beginning of this school year.

Here is a photo of us accepting our trophy. We also each received an individual medal.

Mrs Weiss, a friend of Mrs Dales, kindly came into school to teach us about her recent trip to Japan. She shared lots of interesting photos and facts which have helped us learn more about our Topic.

P7 Trip To Harlaw

On Monday 7th of November, P7 had their first induction morning to Harlaw. First we had a talk with the Harlaw Defenders; they’re an anti-bullying organisation. They explained what bullying is and how to deal with it, then Mrs Rennie (head of S1) talked to us. First we had H.E (Home Economics) where we made smoothies and spoke about their health benefits. After that we had P.E where one group played basketball and the other had fitness stations to do. Finally we had P.S.E (Personal Social Education) where we spoke about laughing and how it can affect the way we feel. To sum up it was a great morning and the P7’s all enjoyed it.

Engineer’N’ Our Lives

This week, in Broomhill, we have been been taking part in an Engineering Week.

The Engineer’n’ Our Lives programme aims to help children appreciate how the skills they learn in school are used by engineers in the work place today by completing four curriculum based challenges and working as if they are engineers in the workplace.

The first two challenges were facilitated by Live Wire Productions and TechFest-SetPoint on the Introduction Day and the other two challenges were class based and led by class teachers between Day 2 and Day 4.

P7 took part in design, prototype, properties and process challenges.

Motto of the week = Materials + Engineers = Product

Here are some photos from the week:

SSPCA

This week we had a visit from the SSPCA, who delivered a lesson called ‘Wild About Animals’. We listened to stories of different animal rescues and learnt the correct thing to do if we find an animal-in Scotland-in need of help. Most importantly, we learnt the SSPCA phone number, which is: 0300 099 999.

Fun Fractions, Dandy Decimals and Popular Percentages

This term in our Maths, we have been doing Fractions, Decimals and Percentages.

We have been trying different methods to help us remember and boost our knowledges such as: top trumps; adding, subtracting multiplying and dividing fractions triangles; loop cards; making posters and Education City.

Jack with his fraction triangle

Playing fraction toptrumps

We have learnt lots of different tricks to make Fractions, Decimals and Percentages easier for us like: when you divide fractions flip your second fraction around and then multiply your two fractions together and it will give you the answer!

Everyone has learnt so much about Fractions Decimals and Percentages and here are some facts we know:1/8 =12.5%=0.125,1/5=20%=0.2 and 1/10=10%=0.1
