Primary 4 this term are working on addition in maths.
We will start by working on addition of 2-digit numbers and then look at addition with 3-digit numbers.
When working on addition this term I am encouraging the children as much as possible to use mental methods of addition to complete their working out. Below are some of the methods we will use to solve different additions.
partitioning
This is where we break the number up into different part and add the different parts together.
Number line
Another method children can use is the number line. This is where they start with one number in the addition and add on the other number step by step. They can demonstrate this process on a number line. The children can break the number up into tens and units and add each on on separately. They cAn break the number up in various ways to make it easier for them.
If if you would like any more details on these methods or how to use them, please get in touch.
