{"id":121,"date":"2022-01-10T15:00:14","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T15:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ac\/abbotswellprimary12202122\/?p=121"},"modified":"2022-01-16T19:49:16","modified_gmt":"2022-01-16T19:49:16","slug":"term-3-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ac\/abbotswellprimary12202122\/2022\/01\/10\/term-3-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"Term 3 Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to term 3 everyone, I hope you had a lovely winter break!<\/p>\n<p>This term we are going to be working on lots of exciting things across the curriculum!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In literacy we will finish covering the <strong>single sounds<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>P1 <\/strong>before moving on to beginning to learn diagraphs. \u00a0In\u00a0<strong>P2 <\/strong>we continue to work through diagraphs and will be introduced to &#8216;<strong>Magic &#8216;e&#8217; <\/strong>which is a really helpful concept when learning to read unfamiliar words! Reading will also follow the usual format. In writing we will be introducing a number of formats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>alliteration<\/li>\n<li>poetry<\/li>\n<li>descriptive writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In numeracy for\u00a0<strong>P1<\/strong> we will be working on numbers to 20 , including correct<strong>\u00a0number formation<\/strong>. We will then continue to work on <strong>addition<\/strong> and introduce\u00a0<strong>subtraction\u00a0<\/strong>later in the term.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0<strong>P2<\/strong> we will continue to work.= with <strong>numbers within 100. <\/strong>We will be learning about <strong>fact families, multiplication and division.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For both\u00a0<strong>P1 and P2\u00a0<\/strong>our topic maths will focus on\u00a0<strong>multiples, fractions<\/strong> and <strong>chance &amp; uncertainty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CLIC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to work on CLIC targets in class, increasing the number of targets for the <strong>P1\u00a0<\/strong>pupils.\u00a0<strong>P2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>will continue to complete <strong>Beat That Maths Challenges and CLIC Challenges on Fridays.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In term 2 we will be looking at <strong>Scotland <\/strong>as our first topic, finishing of with a mini topic on a <strong>Famous Scot<\/strong>. Following that we have a\u00a0<strong>Design and Technology\u00a0<\/strong>topic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our HWB focus in term 2 is on\u00a0<strong>courage and emotions. <\/strong>We will also be learning about <strong>food and health, <\/strong>linking in with our Scotland topic and our science topics. In PE we will continue to do lots of active movement activities, and include some <strong>Scottish dancing!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will have a focus on science. We are going to learn about our\u00a0<strong>senses, inheritance, taking care of our bodies and the skeleton\/organs.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Modern Languages and Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The children will continue to work with Mrs Gilmore for\u00a0<strong>French\u00a0<\/strong>and Mr Smith for\u00a0<strong>Music.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Homework<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework is going to follow the same format as previous terms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P1s\u00a0<\/strong>will get a <strong>reading book<\/strong> home on <strong>Mondays<\/strong> and <strong>Thursdays<\/strong>. Their <strong>pink books<\/strong> will contain homework linked to their sound\/diagraph of the week and will go home on <strong>Mondays<\/strong> and <strong>Wednesdays<\/strong>. <strong>Common word<\/strong> homework goes home on a <strong>Monday<\/strong> and is due in on<strong> Thursday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Please continue to check word pots &#8211; the P1 pots get words added in when they are introduced in their reading book.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P2s\u00a0<\/strong>will get\u00a0<strong>reading books\u00a0<\/strong>home on\u00a0<strong>Mondays\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Wednesdays.\u00a0<\/strong>They will get\u00a0<strong>spelling\u00a0<\/strong>homework on\u00a0<strong>Mondays<\/strong> in their red jotters linked to the sound they are learning in class each week <strong>(if possible, I will send this home on Fridays to give you some extra time over the weekend).<\/strong> Words should be copied out twice each and a sentence should be written at the bottom of the page containing at least 2 of their words for the week.\u00a0 This is due on <strong>Fridays.\u00a0<\/strong>On Friday we complete a\u00a0<strong>spelling test\u00a0<\/strong>in class at the back of the red jotter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As you can see it&#8217;s shaping up to be a really busy and exciting term!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to term 3 everyone, I hope you had a lovely winter break!
