Term 1 and 2 CLIC Targets

As part of our Big Maths scheme in school we do CLIC sessions for core numeracy.  Each letter stands for an area of numeracy.

C – Counting

L – Learn Its (these are number facts which we learn so they can be quickly recalled without needing to work out the answer).

I – It’s Nothing New

C – Calculations

At this stage of Primary 1 we focus on the first two letters.

Counting – saying numbers, counting skills and counting actual objects.

Learn its –  1 + 1 = 2 and 2 + 2 =4.

If you would like to do some maths homework, you can practise these skills at home. Try counting by saying the numbers up to 10, 20 or beyond if you can manage. If you can go forwards, try going backwards. You can also count actual objects, making sure you count each one once to get the correct total.

You can also practise the learn its by asking What is 1+1? and What is 2+2?

Pupil of the Week 1.10.21

Well done to Obaro, our latest pupil of the week. He has been doing a fantastic job of looking after our classroom by helping to tidy things away.

Well done also to Miya, the playground star for the early stages playground this week. She has been a great helper tidying away the playground equipment.

Week beginning Tuesday 28th September 2021

Letter Sounds

This week our letter sounds are c/k and e. Letter c/k homework should be completed for Thursday and letter e homework should be completed by next Monday.

Common Words

Every week in school the children will be introduced to two common words. These will be revised daily and displayed in the classroom. Our aim is for the children to recognise and be able to read the words. They can be reinforced at home by completing the common word homework for Thursday each week. Words for this week are the and are. You may need to help your child to write the number after counting the words together.  From this week they can try to write the words too.

Reading

Reading will be done twice a week in school on a Monday and a Thursday so the children will get 2 new books each week. They will have heard the extended story in school so may be able to tell you more about what is happening in the pictures. Encourage your child to look at the words or point to them as you read.

Week beginning Monday 20th September 2021

On Wednesday this week we have our Fitness Day. Please send the children to school in their sports gear, ready to take part in all the planned fitness activities.

At the end of this week we have the September Holiday Weekend. School is closed on Friday 24th and Monday 27th September.

Now we have completed the first 6 letter sounds – s, a, t, i, p and n. This week in school we will revise these sounds and do some activities to consolidate them. Matching pictures to their initial sound, forming the letter sounds and thinking of things which start with the letter sounds. We can now also start to form words using these letter sounds – sat, pin, at, in, sip, tin etc.

For homework try to make some of these words together at home using the individual letter sounds in the yellow envelope at the front of the pink book. This is the start of blending where we say the sounds together to read the word.
