Letter Sounds

This week we continue with the digraphs (2 letter sounds), as we have now completed all the single initial sounds. These are a little trickier for the children to learn and remember as they are often in the middle or end of words rather than at the start.  Our letter sounds this week are er and ar. Letter er homework should be completed for Wednesday and letter ar homework should be completed by Friday. Please think of any word starting with or containing the digraphs, for the phonics homework.

Please continue to use the word walls in the white homework book to revise the sight vocabulary.  Words for this week are live and give. Please complete the common word homework for Thursday by counting and writing each word.

Reading continues on Monday and Thursday this week.

The children had fun doing lots of different activities for our World Book Day celebration.

Here are Room 1 looking fantastic in their costumes.

We made book marks.

We did character tracings.

We coloured in finger puppets.

We listened to Mrs Forbes read stories in the hall with our buddy class.

Well done to Mary, our latest pupil of the week. She has been putting great effort in to her take away sums in maths this week.

It was very wet day this time for our outdoor learning session with Mr Miller, so we were outside for half the time and came inside for the second half of the afternoon. The children had fun with singing games in the classroom.

This week we welcome a student teacher to our class. Miss Spowart will be with us for 5 weeks until the end of term and then returns next term for 4 weeks.

Tuesday is pancake day – those who ordered will have a pancake for snack.

Thursday is our next session of outdoor learning with Mr Miller. Please send the children to school wearing appropriate clothing for being outside all afternoon.

On Friday we celebrate World Book Day. Children should come to school dressed as a favourite book character.
