Yummy Porridge

After receiving the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and some ingredients from The Friendly Dragon, we spent the afternoon making some delicious porridge. We tasted it plain, with jam and then with honey. Nearly everyone tried some and most of us thought it was SO tasty!

Week beginning 13.03.17

The plans for this week are as follows:

We are continuing with our Fairyland topic and will be meeting some more exciting fairy-tale characters this week, while enjoying some time making and tasting porridge.

Please continue to send in empty sweetie wrappers for our art work.

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. Please work with your child for a short time each night to help improve fluency and to help them recognise the words introduced in class. Thank you to the families who already do this – it makes a notable difference in class.

Common Words – our and out. Homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information. You may have noticed a new Common Word Wall in the White jotters. We will be using this to assess the children’s recognition of the latest set of words covered in class.

Phonics and Handwriting – This week we will be reinforcing the sounds b and h,  concentrating on the correct formation as we focus on formal handwriting activities in class. The homework is due on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Word Making – Now that all 26 sounds have been introduced in class, we are continuing to develop the ‘Word Making’ aspect of learning. To help support your child, please try to work with them over the next week to make simple words using their letters found in the envelope at the front of their pink books.

Maths – Continuing with 3D shape, number to 20 and working on our CLIC Targets.

A reminder that gym day is usually a Thursday. A few children still require gym kit. Please check if you are unsure whether or not your child still has gym clothes in school.

Fitness fun day!

We had an amazing time on Friday taking part in a dance class, body combat and Insanity fitness training plus a healthy eating workshop.  While we got fit and active we also remembered that we were raising funds for a very special little boy in primary 2 who is feeling very poorly at the moment. Although Joel couldn’t come along to school he sent a big hello with his mum who came to lead our Body combat class!
