It has been a very hectic week in P7; what with getting ready for prom, the P7 leavers assembly and health week. For health week we have had a session of tennis, rugby and we did our own mini marathon. I’d like to say a big thank you to Mr Mundie for organising all this and the P7s who have managed to enjoy the sporting activities and continued to  be excellent role models for others. What a night! I hope everyone had a great time. They certainly seemed to enjoy the limos, and the magician. Some even danced! And there wasn’t much pizza left by the end. Here are some of the pictures of the night.

There was great rejoicing as the long awaited Leavers’ jumpers finally appeared. It was the most animated that P7 have been for a while and so after putting names on labels, we went outside to “capture the moment”. These are the results,,,,,,

On Monday we had a visit from the English department of BODA to start our work on discursive writing. The primary 7s impressed with their ability to recognise fact, opinion and judgements, so well done P7. We have another 3 sessions to build up our skills for this type of writing before we get down to the actual writing.

Our topic work has centred around living sustainably and has involved a lot of research and explanation and persuasive writing, but this week we did some practical work. We created floating gardens (inspired by floating gardens created in Bangladesh to cope with flooding) by creating a simple wooden frame with wire mesh, covered with cloth and soil. Next we’re moving on to create a sustainable city, drawing a 2D plan and then creating a power point presentation to promote their city design.

On Wednesday we had our last basketball festival. The team played Kingswells and Gilcomstoun Primaries. We lost both our games but played really well, particularly in the 2nd game. In the first two weeks of next term we will finish playing the Scotstown Cup games and that will be our primary basketball season over.

This week in P7 we are focusing on explanation writing and practising measuring in metres, and working out the area and perimeter of a range of 2D shapes. For health we will have Stef in for the third lesson on alcohol awareness. ICT activities focuses on research for our writing and word processing the writing on google docs.

Today started with our P7 last photo and ended with the basketball team playing against Abbotswells in the Cup game. Unfortunately Abbotswells triumphed, but we played our best to the end. The end of the Cup games means that the basketball club will start their own Scotstown tournament this Wednesday, for the next 3 Wednesdays until all the games are played out.

This Friday is Rag Bag, so if you have any unwanted clothing it would be greatly appreciated if you could bag them up and bring them to the front door, first thing on Friday morning.

Next Monday, a secondary English teacher is coming down to Scotstown to work with all the P7s on discursive writing. This is the first of a set of 4 activities with the English department at BODA

It’s been a busy week and it’s only Wednesday. For writing we are focusing on persuasive writing linked to our topic of sustainable living, so this week we chose whether to argue for organic farming or intensive farming. Next we’re going to research climate change and persuade the non-believers that it’s actually happening and humans are responsible. In maths we’ve moved onto measure and are focusing on accurate measurement and converting between units of measure. On Tuesday morning we were visited by an artist and the owner of Doric Skateboards and did a skateboard design activity. Our designs were taken away and the top design is going to be printed onto a skateboard and displayed at the school.

Today, some of the basketball club were at a festival and played 2 games. Our first game against Culter, we lost, but played well. Our second game against Brimmond, we won and managed to improve our shooting. The team played very well and are continuing to improve their skills.

Tomorrow, Stef is coming to class to work with the P7s on alcohol awareness.

Well done to the team who represented the school on Tuesday at the Rotary Quiz. The rest of P7 and the school enjoyed listening as you spoke about your experiences during assembly. The whole school feels a great pride in your success in winning the Bridge of Don round. We were also impressed with your positive team spirit. Good luck for the next round.

It feels non stop for P7 at the moment. Today there was great excitement in the afternoon as the P7s chose their preferred colours for their leavers hoodies. Hold on though P7; you still have a term and a half before you head up to BIG SCHOOL. After school, some of the basketball team played in their first cup game at Scotstown. We played pupils from Skene Square primary, who played excellently, especially since there were just four of them against our 9. It was extremely close at times with only one or two baskets in it, but finally the 9 triumphed over a very tired four. The final score was 71 to 55. Well played all the team and thank you to the other P7s who helped out with timing, scoring and supporting.

Tomorrow the P7s representing the school at the annual Rotary Quiz go and do their stuff, so good luck to the team. I hope you have been studying your general knowledge and Aberdeen facts recently.

Finally, on Friday we are having the Last Class photo in the morning (that’s the photo that usually appears in the Evening Express), so make sure you have your hair looking lovely and you haven’t dribbled your breakfast down your front.

This week P7 have had a very busy week. First the basketball team were in action on Wednesday. We are still waiting for our first win but everyone played well. We will have our first cup game at Scotstown in a few weeks time, so we’ll get practising our shooting.

On Thursday the P7s did an excellent job of setting up the stalls for the Eco Bring and Buy Sale on Friday. If only parents knew how tidy and organised the P7s could be, then nobody would get away with having a messy bedroom anymore! On Friday everyone had two sessions of manning the stalls. By all reports the P7s were excellent salespeople who looked after their customers well, kept their stock tidy and brought in a tidy profit for the Eco Committe.

On Friday the P7s gave their maths skills a good work out by tackling problem solving activities from Bridge of Don Academy. Mr Cooper was impressed with our ability to persevere with challenge. Pupils did very well with understanding the problem and trying different strategies to solve them. We’d like to say thank you to our Academy helpers for giving the odd clue to some pairs.

Next Friday we are up to the academy for our one day visit and  are looking forward to that.
