Term 2 Newsletter P6

Hope everyone had a lovely October break! We are already working hard and planning our Christmas Fair event and busy with an ASG Math challenge about measurement.

This year Primary 6 is going to have a photo booth at the Christmas Fair. This will make a treasured family memory as you will be able to pose with various items that we are currently busy designing and making. Please support our enterprise project by inviting everyone to come and take a picture. It will be great fun!
We have also been on an autumn walk with both Red and Green Nursery classes this term. We’ve visited the Gospel Hall next to the school for some activities and we will be posting some pictures of this at a later date.

Our topic this term is Enterprise.  We will be looking at how we spend money, how and where we can save it and what is the best way to work with money.
We will be planning on how we can make and spend money for our Christmas Fair project by doing spreadsheets on the computer.

Some dates for your calendar:
15 November – wear your pyjama’s to school (Children in Need fundraising)
3 December – School Fair
11 December – wear a Christmas jumper to school
As always, please do not hesitate to contact myself or the school if you have any queries.

A busy Term 1!

We went to Tech Fest in September and learned all about gasses, engineering and the stars.  We learned that some gasses can explode and that helium is lighter than air.  We looked at the stars in a planetarium and learned that some of them are not stars, but planets.  We saw that they make pictures in the sky and that they all have names.  We also had  to design a tower that would be strong enough for King Kong to sit on without collapsing.  We had to work in teams to make a strong structure.  All of us had different ideas and it was great fun to see if we succeeded in this task (and most of us did!)

We have been learning all about Japan this term.  We have made beautiful Japanese fans and cherry blossom trees.  For homework we had to design a booklet about a chosen topic.  All of the children produced lovely work and they all gave a talk about their booklet explaining why they chose a specific topic and what they have learned about Japan.

We had a sushi experiece in class where all of us got the chance to taste some.  Some of the children loved it, and some of them couldn’t stand it!  Well done to everyone for trying some!

We went to Duthie Park to visit the Japanese Garden and to learn more about the country and the plants they have, and to write a Haiku about nature.  We were very lucky to have 2 Rangers (Claire and Colin), to show us around and teach us new things.  We made origami boats and windmills as well and had great fun when we got to test our boats on water!  We also had a Japanese quiz and had to compete in groups to see who knew the most.

Our class had to lead an assembly this term and we chose to do a theme about how we are all special in our own way.  The children did a fantastic job and made us all proud.  Well done to you all for trying your very best, practising your words and singing your hearts out!  Thank you to the parents who were able to come and share this experience with us.

September Newsletter 2014

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Primary 6.

This year Mrs Angus will be helping to support the children in our class.  Miss Thomson will be teaching PE on a Wednesday and Mrs Brown Music, also on a Wednesday.
Some information to know at the beginning of a new school year. This term, as a class, our project is a book study of Kensuke’s Kingdom by Micheal Morpurgo and the country Japan.  We have identified many things that we would like to learn about this country like the weather, the schools, the food and Tokyo.

  • Homework:  Spelling and Maths homework will be given every Monday and is to be handed in on a Thursday.  Please could you sign each page of your child’s work.  If you have any comments regarding their homework, please feel free to write a note beside your child’s work.
  • Reading:  We will be reading most days in class, so children will get reading homework throughout the week.  Please check their yellow reading books for new work.
  • Gym: This will be on a Monday and a Wednesday.  Gym kits can remain in school and should be in school on those days.
  • Library:  Children will be able to take books out of the library for reading enjoyment in class or at home.  We will be changing books every Thursday.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Mrs C Eloff
