We have enjoyed learning all about how Hindu families prepare and celebrate for their festival of light – Diwali. 

An important part of their celebration is decorating their houses with diva lamps and lighting them.  This reminds them of the story of Ram and Sita where Ram and Sita followed the rows of lights to find their way home after defeating and escaping from an evil king.

We took part in Let’s Move and acted out sweeping and polishing the house, opening windows to welcome in the Gods, going to buy sweets from the market to give to family and friends for presents as well as setting out and lighting the diva lamps.

We enjoyed making and decorating our very own clay diva lamps.  Here are some photos to show you what we did.
