Message from PTA regarding Milk at School

Parents/Guardians

At present the PTA co-ordinate the ordering of milk for those children from primary 2-7 that request it.  This is becoming almost an impossible task with problems arising, a sample of which is below:

  • Payments are often late and not paid in full
  • Children are not taking the milk, even though it is paid for
  • Teachers are sometimes forgetting to tell the children to get the milk due to a busy and sometimes hectic schedule.
  • Children are taking the milk but only taking a small amount out of the carton before discarding which leads to a lot of excess waste for the school.
  • Fluctuating prices of milk during a term which leaves either a deficit or a credit in the Account.

The PTA cannot be responsible for payments which are left in the PTA tray as the tray is only cleared once a week on a Monday.  It leaves us vulnerable to claims of people paying when we have not received either a completed slip or a cheque/cash for their child.

As the PTA are not present on a daily basis it is hard to ensure that all those children who have had milk paid for actually receive it.  All we can do is order the required amount and update lists for the relevant teachers, which we do at the beginning of each term.

After lengthy discussion, it has been decided not to send out the slips for the January term until a decision has been made whether the PTA will continue to provide this service which is only for the 40 -60 children per term who take up this offer.

As part of this decision, I have compiled this note so that anyone who wants to comment on the halting of this service can have their say.

If you have any comment or have any alternative suggestions on a way forward, please contact me on: coletteorwell@hotmail.com
