Fairtrade School Uniform Option
Ferryhill School are introducing an ethically manufactured/Fairtrade school uniform option. This is made with Fairtrade Cotton and can be ordered online. Primary 7 members of the Rights Respecting Schools Committee were keen to introduce this following a talk about Fairtrade from Koolskools. They have inspected jumper samples and were suitably impressed!
Some background to Fairtrade…
Fairtrade cotton means that we can be sure that the farmers who grow the cotton receive a fair and sustainable payment for their crop. Their communities also receive a premium for projects such as building schools and hospitals and get access to clean water.
Being “Fairtrade Cotton Certified” means that all parts of the manufacturing process of the Fairtrade cotton garments have been inspected and audited. The factories are signed up to Fairtrade Minimum Standards, designed to ensure that practices such as child labour and enforced overtime /long hours don’t exist.
Please note that parents can continue to buy their school uniform from our usual supplier (WCS Scotland in George St).
However, you now have the option of purchasing items online through Koolskools.
