Language Skills Homework Monday 26-11-18 to be returned on Monday 3-12-18

We covered this in P6 but we need to revisit it!

Homophones – there their they’re

There – in, at, or to that place (Quick memory jogger – ‘there’ contains the word ‘here’. If you can replace ‘there’ in a sentence with ‘here’, you are using the correct word!)

They’re – a contraction of ‘they are’. (Example: Mr Apostrophe brings words together so that they’reeasier to say.)

Their – tells of things belonging to people (Quick memory jogger – ‘their’ contains the word ‘heir’. Anheir possesses a person’s things/money when they die, and ‘their’ is a possessive adjective. Example: The people knew their king would die one day and the heir to the throne his daughter, the princess, would become queen.)

TASK – Design and make an A4 poster (no bigger) on your piece of plain paper, that explains the different meanings of the three words in an eye catching, entertaining way. Alternatively, you can make three A4 posters (no bigger) – one for each word

Remember to use good VCOP

Extra information: Homophones – words that sound the same but have different meanings and sometimes different spellings. ‘Homo’, from Greek meaning ‘same’. ‘Phone’, from Greek meaning ‘sound’.
