2. Write your spelling words forwards and then backwards. Write neatly!

Maths

1. Make a list or a mind map of all of the different ways people can pay for items or services (eg. notes, credit cards, gift cards, etc). What ways are used most by your family?
2. International Currencies Quiz (optional extra challenge!)

Reading – Select a novel of your choice and read it at home. Complete the tasks for Monday 8^th October:

1. Draw a picture of one of the characters from the book. It should be colourful and detailed.
2. Write a short description of your character that you have drawn. Add labels if necessary. In your description you can include what they look like, who they are friends with, their likes and dislikes, their personality (Eg. kind, clever, bossy) and the main things that they do in the story.

Below is a letter from Mrs Dalziel regarding P4-7 Homework this year.

As part of our ongoing drive to raise attainment in literacy, Primary 4-7 homework will focus on the consistent application of correct spelling, vocabulary and punctuation in written work, rather than on learning words for a spelling test.

Spelling sounds and words which are the focus of classroom teaching will be shared and can be practised at home for the period of time set – these may be common or tricky words or linked with a specific phoneme.  Class teachers will be looking for these words to be spelled and used correctly in all pupils’ written work, not just in a spelling ‘test’.  Weekly literacy homework tasks may be linked to these spelling words or commonly misspelt/misused words (e.g. their, there and they’re; your, you’re) or punctuation and grammar practice, editing, proof reading or other.

P4-7 pupils will undertake Guided Reading sessions in class throughout the week and visit the school library regularly where they can select texts of their choice to read at home and/or in school.  Pupils are encouraged to read for pleasure at home; class teachers will issue suitable reading texts and a set task to be completed at home within a given time.  Pupils are also encouraged to bring texts from home into school to read and discuss in class.

Other homework will be issued each week which will include relevant numeracy and maths topics and activities linked to classroom learning.

Hello and welcome to P5M’s class blog.

The first few weeks have flown by and already P5M have been incredibly busy.

This blog is for information on what is happening in P5M, any homework or special events, as well as sharing information and photos so you can keep up to date with the children’s learning. Over the course of the year the pupils will have the opportunity to update the blog and share with you directly what has been happening in the classroom. Any comments here are most welcome, I’m sure the children would love to hear what you think.

Please find below an overview of our timetable for Term 1 which will inform you of the days the children have an activity out with the classroom.

• Monday – singing with Miss Hamilton, homework due in, PE with Miss Macrae
• Tuesday – P.E with Miss McCormick,
• Wednesday – Health with Mrs Cox, homework given out, library
• Thursday – Mrs Dalziel in class, French with Mrs Shepherd
• Friday – Assembly with Mrs Dalziel, ICT, P.E with Miss McCormick

Just a wee reminder that your child has the following in school:

• A named gym kit
• A named apron or smock for art
• A named ‘rainy day’ job for indoor break and lunches.  E.g. Cards, a colouring book or something similar.   All of the above can be left in school.
• A box of tissues to be used in class over the year.
