Roald Dahl Day + Problem Solving Task

On the 13th September it was Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. We celebrated by dressing up as a character from one of his books. We did lots of stuff like problem solving and we had to put 6 of his characters at different places on a dinner table and we had rules of who could not sit where. We also had a morning challenge where we had to name as many of Roald Dahl’s books and characters as we could. Some boys dressed up as the BFG and Mike TV and some girls dressed up as Matilda and Miss Trunchbull. It was a really fun day!

Paired Reading

P5D have paired up with P2, and have been reading to each other. Some of us have two people to read for so some of us have very nice partners. We have to read to them sometimes and sometimes they read to us. Sometimes we share our writing with them that we have been doing in class. This week we had to help them to read and complete a comprehension task all about Roald Dahl. Abbie’s partner is Noah, Ruadhan’s partner is Aaryan and Jessica’s partner is Erin.

Letter to Roald Dahl

We wrote letters to Roald Dahl and we asked him questions about his life. We all wish we was still alive and he could write more books! In the letter we told him what out favourite books are. Our favourites are The Magic Finger, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Our favourite characters are the BFG, Matilda and Willy Wonka. In the letters we learned how to address the letter properly. In our letters we mentioned what we dressed up as on Roald Dahl Day.  We also asked him interesting questions.

Drama

In Drama we have been acting out scenes from The Titanic and Roald  Dahl books for Roald Dahl Day. Daniel,  Alex, Martin, Ollie, Harrison and Finlay  decided to act out a scene from Fantastic Mr Fox and they pretended to chase chickens! We thought the book was Fantastic! Charlie, Lochlan and Mitchell and they were doing the scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and they were doing the scene where  Mike TV shrinks! Maisy , Isla , Orla and Abbie acted out the scene where Matilda gets thrown in the chokie.

Gym

In gym we have been learning about fitness Miss Mair made a game called fitness monopoly and fitness bingo. In Monopoly we had to roll the dice and whatever one you landed on was a fitness stretch. Then you had to do the stretch. If you landed on jail you had to sing a nursery rhyme and do jumping jacks or running on the spot.

First few weeks of Term 1

Welcome to Term 1! and to our brand new P5D blog 🙂

We have been quite busy the last few weeks getting used to our new routines and timetable and beginning our new topics and learning.

We have started paired reading with P2B/M. We have also started our brand new exciting topic about the Titanic and we keep receiving mysterious missions of tasks to complete in class.

We have been looking at whole number in maths and we have been writing monster descriptions and Titanic newspaper reports.

We have been learning about buoyancy and how density, buoyancy and forces relate to sinking and floating. We designed and created rafts using problem solving strategies and limited resources which we tested in the water tray.

Here are some photos of our P5 year so far!
