Term 4 Overview
We have another busy term coming up in P1/2. Here are some of the activities we will be doing this term:
Literacy
P1
The children are continuing with the Jolly Phonics program in class. We will cover our last 4 digraphs (2 letter sounds) at the start of the term and then move on to using the sounds for blending and segmenting, reading and writing.
The last set of sounds is as follows:
oi, ue, er, ar
After completing all the sounds we will continue to consolidate and revise all the sounds covered throughout Primary1. We will then move on to spelling homework. starting with 3 letter cvc words, focusing on the same middle vowel each week.
We will continue with our reading books on a Monday and Thursday. The children will read their book with their group and an adult in class and discuss new words.
Common words from each set of reading books will be put in your child’s word pot. These can be used at home to match to the words in the books or to sight read when your child is able.
We will also practise two common words per week. These are words that appear frequently in texts. These are in the white homework book and should be completed for Thursdays.
P2
The P2 children will be working on their own phonic sounds each week with spelling lists of words containing the sound, and two common words. Please write out the words and sentences for homework each week and spelling test will be on a Friday.
Sounds for this term:
nk, er, ir, ur, au, aw,
Reading will be done in school on a Monday and Thursday and the children will also take these books home to read. Comprehension related to the reading books will be done in school.
Our focus for grammar this term will again be adjectives (describing words). We will try to use some in our writing. We will also revise nouns and use these along with adjectives to create interesting sentences.
This term we will be writing instructions and imaginative stories.
Numeracy
P1
We will again be working on addition and subtraction this term alongside numbers from 10-20. Numeracy targets for CLIC are in a post with a CLIC overview for the term and some suggested resources which can be used at home.
Our topic maths this term is money, information handling, symmetry and measurement.
P2
The P2 children will do daily CLIC sessions and Beat That at the end of the week. Numeracy targets for CLIC are in a post with a CLIC overview for the term and some suggested resources which can be used at home. We will continue with number to 100 and do some written addition, subtraction and multiplication.
