Week beginning Monday 4th March 2019

Thursday is World Book Day – don’t forget the children should come to school dressed as a favourite book character and bring the book if they can.

Letter Sounds

This week our sound is th. Letter sound th homework should be completed for Wednesday. The rest of the week will be spent revising our last group of letter sounds y, x, ch, sh,th. Please complete the word making homework for next Monday 11th March.

Common Words

Please keep revising word walls 1-3 at home. Words for this week are just and were. Please complete the common word homework for Thursday. You may need to help your child to write the number after counting the words together. They should also try to write the words.

Reading

The children will get 2 new books this week on Monday and Thursday. We will start the Oxford Reading Tree Decode and Develop set of books this week.

Maths

This week we will continue with our information handling. The children will be sorting things into sets and working on simple bar graphs and pictograms.

 

As part of our Big Maths we do CLIC sessions in the class which now in Primary 1 involve C – counting  L – learn its I – it’s nothing new and C – calculations. This week we will carry on with the same targets as last week.

Counting – counting on and back in 1s

Learn its –  1 + 1 = 2,  2 + 2 = 4,  3 + 3 = 6,  4 + 4 = 8,  5 + 5 = 10

It’s Nothing New – doubling 1 digit numbers

Calculations – addition finding the total of 2 groups

Topic

Last week the children started doing some weaving with coloured ribbons to make rainbow fish. We have almost completed our laminated rainbow fish for the window and are getting our display ready to go up on the classroom wall. This week we will be watching some video clips about real fish and the sea. We will be making some paper plate jellyfish with wool tentacles.

Week beginning Monday 25th February 2019

This week we welcome a student teacher to work with our class for the rest of this term and some of next term. Her name is Miss Burns.

On Tuesday afternoon we are going up to Kincorth Library to choose some books to take back to school.

Last week the children started making rainbow fish which we are laminating. You will be able to see them going up on our classroom windows. We also started making rainbow fish for a classroom display. Lots of our activities will be creative for this topic.

Topic

Our topic for the rest of the term will be a creative topic linked to the story of The Rainbow Fish. We will be doing lots of art and craft activities, listening to Rainbow Fish stories and creating some of our own.

Week beginning Monday 11th February 2019

This week is the half-term holiday. The school is closed for all on Monday 11th February and for pupils on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th February. These are in-service days.

This week we will be revising z, w, ng, v and oo. Please complete the homework in the pink book for Friday. Words such as van, wing, zoo, wool, boots, zip and wind can be made.

Week beginning 4th February 2019

Please remember the school photographer will be in school this week on Wednesday.

Next weekend is the holiday weekend. The school is closed for all on Monday 11th February and for pupils on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th February. These are in-service days.

Topic

The children enjoyed our Scottish food tasting last week and we had a whole school showcase assembly on Friday afternoon where the children got to show the rest of the school some of their work. The class were excellent at saying our doric poem Pets! and we showed our art thistles and our cut out Loch Ness Monsters.

Week beginning 28th January 2019

The book fair comes to school this week. Our time for P1C is on Thursday afternoon at 1.50pm. You can come in to look at the books with your child at that time if you want.

Topic

Our topic of Scotland continues this week. We will listen to some more Scottish stories, and carry on with our dancing to Scottish music in the gym. Thistle pictures will be our aim in Art this week and we will be tasting some Scottish food at the end of the week.
