Fun in the snow!

Although the weather is currently shortening our school day, we are making the most of it at Nursery!

Snow offers lots of learning opportunities!

The children were learning how to travel safely in the snow.

They were problem solving to figure out how to get to the top of the slippy hill so that they could sledge down.

They had to work out how to collect and transport snow for our Nursery snowman.

They had to find a fair way to share the sledges to make sure everyone had a turn.

Great work everyone!

World Book Day 2018

We had an amazing time yesterday celebrating World Book Day!

The children wore lots of amazing costumes and brought their favourite books to tell us about! We have displayed the information about their favourite books outside Nursery.

Well done to Harry (AM) and Payton (PM) who won the prize for “Best Dressed!”

Chinese New Year!

We celebrated Chinese New Year last week!

We are learning about different cultures and traditions. We are also learning about the differences between other cultures and our own.

We had a Chinese banquet for snack and the children enjoyed trying vegetable rice, spring rolls and prawn crackers (the latter was definitely a hit!) They tried to eat their Chinese food with chopsticks which was a great fine motor challenge! Some of them went for a problem solving approach and tried lots of different ways to use the chopsticks!

We made Chinese dragons and dog masks in the craft area as it is the year of the dog.

We also tried to copy some Chinese symbols in the writing area. We are learning to hold our pencil using a tripod grip and use our looking eyes to look carefully at the symbol so that we can copy it on our own paper!

In the gym we tried our own dragon dancing after being inspired by some clips from a dragon dancing competition!

World Book Day!

It’s world book day on 1st March (next Thursday!) and we will be celebrating it in Nursery with some special activities.

If the children want to they can come into school in fancy dress, dressed as their favourite book character!

We would also like the children to bring in their favourite book from home so that we can share some of the stories together.

If you would like to come in to read stories to the children on that day just let a member of Nursery staff know!

Interactive Learning Diary

Thanks to all the parents who came to the ILD meeting today! We hope you manage to access your accounts successfully at home. If not, please speak to Miss Farmer!

If you missed the meeting please see your child’s tray where you will find all the information you need to get your account set up.

ILD is one of the best ways to keep up to date with your child’s progress and achievements in Nursery! Remember you can also download the ILD parent app!

Transport Week

This week we are focusing on a children’s choice topic: Transport!

In the role play corner we now have a garage where we have been fixing bikes today! We are learning to use small tools to help us develop our fine motor skills.

During his Stay & Play session, Leah’s Dad was teaching us about the different tools and how we can fix the bikes!

Fish!

We now have four wonderful fish in Nursery! We are learning how to look after them. We know they need lots of equipment and lots of looking after!

We came up with a shortlist of names and then did a vote in both classes so they now have names!

Introducing our Nursery fish – Bananas, Tiddler, Davey and Wonky!

New Term!

We have hit the ground running at Nursery this term!

As I mentioned in my last post, we are learning about Giles Andreae and we are specifically focusing on his book, Commotion in the Ocean!

We have been making our own mixed media ocean scenes with Miss Leslie:

Some of us turned our pictures into something we could wear!

We have been playing in our water tray ocean:

And some of us have even been wearing clothes that fit the theme!

We have been looking at real oceans and learning about the different creatures that live there:

And we’ve been reading lots of fantastic ocean themed stories!

Great work everyone!

Author Study

To kick off the new term we are participating in the whole school Author Study! We have chosen Giles Andreae as our author and we are reading lots of his fantastic rhyming stories!

Our focus is his popular story, Commotion in the Ocean!

The children will be learning about the animals who live in and around the oceans and seas. They will using this context to learn about rhyming words and descriptive language. We will be using music and movement as a way to express our ideas and thoughts about the book as well as making our own animals using different art and craft techniques!

You can listen to the story here:

Happy Reading!
