Forest update

The children are desperate to go to the forest next week.  We will now be going to the forest on Thursday 5th and Thursday 12th November.  The parent helpers that were due to help this week are still able to help next week.  We still require 1 additional parent helper for next week.  Please catch me at drop off/pick up if you are able to help.

I am aware many of you were able to help for our second forest session which was due to be next Thursday and is now Thursday 12th. If you are able to help with this please let me know.  Thank you and apologies for any confusion!

Our superhero book

After working so hard to make our fantastic superhero cars we decided to draw pictures of them.  We labelled our pictures so that our friends can copy our ideas when they are building.  We tried hard to sound out big words like batman! We are going to use our pictures to make a big book for our construction corner and then we can use it to build other superhero cars.  More pictures to follow…

Superhero transport

The children had asked to find out more about superhero cars.  They wanted to find out why they needed to be so fast.

Today we designed our own superhero cars using a range of construction.  There was lots of tricky problem solving to do and some very good teamwork.

Testing out our cars – do they go fast? How can we make them faster?

Measuring our cars using measuring tapes – this caused much excitement and is our new favourite tool in the construction area. 🙂

We worked hard to meet the targets that we thought we should have.  We decided the cars must be fast and that they should have a roof. image

Talking time

We have been having lots of talking time this week.  We are sharing our holiday stories.  The children have been full of excitement when sharing their news!

We are learning to listen to others and to try and extend conversations by asking questions. We put our thumbs up when we want to ask a friend a question.

Halloween fun

We carved pumpkins today with Mrs Murray, our parent helper.  We hope to take these to the forest on Thursday.  We need 3 battery operated tea lights for these.  If you have any at home that we can borrow for this week please send them in.  Many thanks.

Homework for this week (wb 26.10.15)

Please collect lots of junk for superhero model making.  We need lots of kitchen roll tubes!

Pandas and Tigers – new sounds and words

Elephants – new words.  Revise all sounds please.

Please look around your house for any superhero themed toys or books that we could borrow for our superhero area in class.  Please do not send anything in that has a high emotional or financial value.

Pasta Spelling

This week our language learning zone activity is to make our tricky words out of pasta.  We have really enjoyed doing this and are becoming much more confident in spelling words like the, and,  my, me, can and did.  You could try this at home too.

Design Challenges

This term we are going to be having different challenges to try during learning zones.  This week our challenge is a superhero design challenge.  We have to try and create a superhero mask using some of the materials provided.  The trickiest bit is to work out how to cut out the eye holes.  Here are some of our superheroes so far (these superheroes are certain their families won’t be able to guess who they are!)

Top Table

This week the top table were the red table.  They got lots of cubes because three of the star writers were at their table (you get 15 table points if you are a star writer!)

In the photograph you can see how we work out who has the most points.  We build our cubes/points into towers of 5 and then use a computer programme to count up in 5s.  We are getting very good at this and it is helping us to learn about number sequences and number recognition to 100.

Star Writers

Here are our four star writers for this week.  We wrote wonderful stories based on the book ‘The disgusting Sandwich.’ Our targets were to write ‘the’ correctly, to use words from a word bank and to add lots of detail to our pictures. Mrs Duncan was very proud of us all because we all achieved our tagets! 🙂
