Reading champions

A massive well done to everyone who took part in our funny reading competition.  The children were delighted to share their funny photos of them reading a book in a strange place.  It definitely inspired them to think about reading outside and in unusual places in their house.  Well done and thank you for all of your fantastic photographs!

The class voted and chose three winners.  Here they are:

Massive Maths Problems

Today we solved very big sums using a calculator app on the iPads.  We were all delighted when we managed to solve very big 2 and 3 digit sums.  We also spent some time teaching someone else how to use a calculator and were very supportive (and cute) teachers! Well done everyone!

Construction Minibeasts

We had great fun working with our friends to make a minibeast out of construction.  We had to try hard to share our ideas and the construction.  We created some wonderful minibeast and some very imaginative models! We drew and wrote a plan before we made our minibeast and wrote about them in our forest diary once they we’re complete.

Homework wb 30.5.16

Reading

Reading will be done on Monday and Thursday this week.

Literacy

Please continue with ‘Teach you monster to read.’

We will be starting to revisit the formation of all letters sounds.  This week please focus on writing c, a and d.  We call these ‘caterpillar letters’  because we start them by writing a curly c like a caterpillar.  You could use pens and paper, shaving foam, finger paint, whiteboards and pens.

Maths

Please play the subtraction game that was sent home.  This will be sent home on Tuesday.  You will need some counters and dice.  If you don’t have dice at home you get some fantastic free dice apps to download.   Please remember that when we take away everything, 0, 1 or 2 we don’t use our fingers.

Please note:  the forest will be cancelled this week.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.  We will reschedule alternative dates very soon.

Forest Session 4

We had another great day in the forest today.  We checked on our bird feeders and many of us were delighted to find that our entire bird feeders had been eaten!  We also tied our ‘Scoop your poop’ posters to encourage other forest users to keep our outdoor learning space tidy.

We had a picnic lunch in the forest.  We all enjoyed choosing a special spot to sit with our friends and eat our lunch.

After lunch we found out about habitats.  We did a reading task to find out about different habitats that forest animals live in.  Then, in small groups, we made our own habitat for an animal we had read about.  There was great teamwork and fantastic problem solving happening everywhere!

Minibeast Research

Today we tried to find out more about a minibeast of our choosing using the iPads.  We chose a minibeast and then watched a video about it on our own iPads.  We then shared and wrote down some of our nely discovered facts!  It was great to discover so many new things that we didn’t know about minibeasts!

Minibeast Tally charts

We have been using our skills in counting up in 5s to make tally charts and graphs this week.  We asked all our friends in the class ‘What is your favourite minibeast?’ We had to record our results using a tally chart.

Today we used our tally charts to complete our graphs in the sunshine.
